• Mystic msg reading prompts

Not sure where to ask about this, so this looks good enough...

At the moment I'm attempting to edit the message reading prompts on a board I intend to throw up, however things aren't quite working out. After looking
over the prompt strings I had thought that the message reading prompts were more or less limited to strings 115, 116, and 213. However, any edits I make thereto don't seem to show up whether I'm reading a post in a message base or reading from the 'check email' function. I'm using the FSE for reading
messages if that makes any difference. I had thought that perhaps the FSE
uses a different set of prompts, but I didn't note any on my first purusal of the prompt strings.

To be clear, when I say the message reading prompt I'm referring to the
command prompt that should show up nominally at the bottom of your screen
    while reading messages.

    So... any ideas?

Take a look at ANSIMRD.ANS. The prompts you tried are specifically for the text-style ansi message reading, in which the header and footer are actual strings. If you're using the ansi-style message reader, you have to edit the ansi, which includes the header and footer, along with a couple pipe codes to show where the message text will start and stop, long with an INS/OVR switch if
    you care to display that.

Excellent. I knew I was missing something.

Yep. Those strings only affect the old school page reader that hardly anyone uses any more. I think Distortion is literally the only Mystic BBS I've
called recently that defaults to it. :P

I used to use it for quite some time, up until the 1.12 wave where I re-setup. g00 had mentioned working on those kinds of ansis and making them moddable with
a .ini file or something, so I ended up using all the ansi stuff to try to keep
    up with the Jones'. ;)

Yeah, I actually like them a lot, I just prefer the more old school methods of message reading and file listing for Distortion. If I were to completely overhaul the board or put up a new one, I'd probably switch. *shurg*
