What is the obsession with Fido style nets all about? Everyone wants to carry them, but what about your local echos?

20 years ago, it was a rush for me to be BBSing and to see messages from other parts of the country, but now, I don't see that point anymore, since I could just easily connect to any BBS without a need for any message network.

But I'm not trying to spoil anyone's fun. I'm just wondering how can the Fidonet system be made useful again? Does it work well for e groups, or for anyone who wants to distribute something? If not, is that because of limitations with the who fido setup? How large can file attachments be?

yeah, but that would make things less fun. transfering echomail on dailup is
a real rush hearing that modem ring and watching the packets transfer...

heh well aside from that, maybe we can get the coder of irex to find and update his code. if your registered irex, you should still have access to his email.

So true. I hooked up a modem to my system and heard my first dialup connection in 14 years. I'm tempted to get an ISDN line again - the per minute charges bit , but the BBS doesn't need more than 128 kb/sec for data transfers, and
getting rock solid, clean 56K connects made it pretty cool back in the day.
