I've not done any 3-D at home, but I did make the effort to see the first two Hobbit movies in theaters that supported High Frame Rate 3D. (By then I
figured out that finale wouldn't be worth the effort.)
It was definitely a mixed bag - took my brain a bit to adjust to the higher frame rate and it made some of the shots seem "cheap" in a way.
But the underground scenes, like the goblin caves and the scenes with Gollum were breathtaking. It felt like the technology was absolutely perfect there - just not so much in other sets.
