Is this net essentially dead? I don't see much activity at all for a long time in practically all the bases. I also applied for my board, but haven't heard anything in ages.

I also saw another SysOp drop it due to inactivity citing the same. I guess its us users who keep the message bases going, but was just curious.

It wouldn't be dead if people like you (and others) contributed! There has been about 10 applicants in the past 2 weeks (your last email to us was 8/14), and not a single one has posted a message besides maybe one or two test messages in the area designated for it. There's a huge difference between sysops that collect message networks, and sysops that actually participate in them; and to give you a small inkling of what I mean.. there's over 100 systems connected to this network. ;(

Have you figured out the issue yet? Looks like you've already been setup as 46:10/200. If I remember correctly, after that mail you figured out that you messed something up copy/pasting your areas.. or am I thinking of someone else?

Was that for Araknet or Agoranet? I'm still confused by your subject of the message I'm replying to. Did you ask that sysop if he was contributing anything useful (or even remotely trying) before dropping whatever network he was referring to?

It most definitely is. Agoranet was pretty active before other networks came around and veered the activity elsewhere. It happens. If you want to save what networks are left, sysops need to contribute to them.. rather than collect them to beef up their stats on their BBS ads.. which then gets actual users interested in contributing, too.

Sorry, this was actually a case of the Mondays (on a Tuesday). So I MEANT to post that in Araknet General, but I was in Agoranet General (they looked similar I guess when half asleep). But after I sent it, I hoped maybe just the title having mentioned Araknet would get me by, but I really should have sent a follow up message to clarify. Sigh.

So my bad, I did NOT mean Agoranet, Agoranet is just fine. You guys helped me a ton getting my side of things working for Agoranet.

board carriers 2 networks or 20 networks. They're all quiet due to lack
of participation. A sysop can drive only so much traffic. It really
needs users to step up on post and keep conversations going.

I know exactly what you mean. You would think that you can escape the case of the Mondays when it's a holiday, but it just follows you to the next day.

I agree completely! I'm at fault, too. While I may run the network, I don't have multiple topics to bring up daily to try to keep everyone interested. It's definitely a "team effort" thing.

Very true. Unfortunately, these days there's more sysops than there are users. So if the sysops aren't doing anything active, neither will the users.

Interesting! I have no idea the history of it, but now I'm curious :)

I saw Araknet on some other boards so figured it was still active. Then I found the Reign of Fire BBS and saw there was an application there so I submitted it but didn't hear anything back. So maybe its dead I guess? I also saw in post recently someone shared a google sheets document with a "master list" of echonets and there were some in red that I suppose are dead (there was DixieNet in red which I think I heard was dead so assumed red meant dead) and Araknet was in red. Maybe not worth it for me at this point to pursue.

MetroNet (my Renegade BBS Support network) has been around since 1994. You can find it on www.rgbbs.info website. Not real active anymore, but was in its hayday.

The original is gone. The one hosted by Reign of Fire is the "2.0" or whatever. If you sent an application to his email or via netmail, he probably didn't get it. I've been trying to reach him for weeks for Fidonet related things. I finally let him know that both of those methods don't seem to be working on some Fidonet echo he had posted on.
