    I'm not even sure I've been in a storm that had that much im my lifetime!

    How much is the next storm going to dump?

    Back in 2009-2010 we had a crazy year where we had like 20-something inches
    and then another foot or so a few days later. I think two back to back
    larger storms is much worse than getting it all at once...

    We ended up with like 80-90 inches total for the winter or so.

    Stay safe!

    My only question here is, you live in an area that is just about guaranteed snow every winter. Why in the hell do you not have a snowblower!?

    When we bought our house, I only had two needs. A riding lawn mower and a snowblower. Screw shoveling! And for the record, I still have that original riding lawn mower (Craftsman live forever!) and I'm now on my second snowblower
    as of 2 years ago). :)

    I paid a decent chunk for the one I have. It's a monster. I haven't had it bog on me in any occasion yet, including the shit at the bottom of the driveway that the plows leave for you to clean up.

    I think the auger housing is 30" tall, and 36" wide. So put it on the slowest speed and watch the shit go 50ft into the neighbors yard. :)

    Thanks! It wasn't a problem with the time zone stuff but the string padding function was struggling to see "-4" as a single character! Whoops :)

    It should be fixed up now in A3... At least in Windows. I'm a bit concerned about the Linux side because its trickier to get the time zone information in Unix systems.

    I think asides the 3 vs 4 digits it's a bit strange as when I last posted it was showing -100 and I am posting where it's currently +1300 so 10.12am
    Sunday morning my time as I type this...

    Yes, the problem is still the same with the padding function. Its fixed as
    far as I can tell in A3 (if you look at my A3 posts it'll be -0400 now).

    Second hand but better specs than before :)

    Now I have more HDD space (463 gig free, was 43 gig free) and CPU is better also (was Celeron 520 @ 1.60GHz and now it's a Core 2 Duo E7400 @ 2.80GHz)

    So far the move has been fairly smooth, just a few IP setting changes and
    some tweaks to port forwarding etc.

    I won't decomission the old PC until I give this one a few days to bed down.

    Yep, I made a change too, I'm running Synchronet now. Actually I ran sync years ago and have always liked it along with many different BBS and FTN software. I saw some folks badmouting sync so it made me curious so I went and had a look. Now I'm running it agian, wasn't really part of the plan it just happened that way. :)

    Good for you. In the end it's what works best for the person running it because lets face it you are the number 1 user of the system.

    I ran Synchronet for 2 years and I liked it, the only reason I switched at first was to prove to someone else I could do what I wanted with a DOS package said person claimed didn't work. ;) Been with it ever since.

    I still like Sync, and wish I could find the CDrom that had my last backup on, I had the entire shell re written in baja the way I wanted it to work.

    Yes. So far the only think acting up is the ftelnet window. I got bored with my
    apache2 server so decided to try something new. I have tons planned for it, just need time to tinker with it more. :)

    Things should work a little smoother now that I added a route statement for his
    node number (and another I had setup at the same time). I forgot to last night when I originally set it up, so his netmail areafix requests, while they were answered, were never sent to him until those routes were added.

    They have been sent out within the past 20 minutes though, after I read email and found out what the problem was. ;)

    Testing message replies.

    Not sure what's with the ansi quote line, but it doesn't seem to look right.

    This message came through fine, but you also sent the original message from Robert Wolfe to Smooth along with it, and changed the MSGID so that it came from your system instead. This needs to be fixed asap please, as you're altering original messages and re-sending them out as if they were new.

    Cool,, i haven't seen that new kernel yet, but not too worried, so far so
    good, although i still have to automate some stuff with cron when i get sometime.. It's been about 3 years or more since i last ran arch and/or sabayon.. Once thing that has irks me are the doc's and guids are not so great.. can still still figure stuff out but some stuff you just have to keep merging packages till eventually you get everything needs to compile some stuff.. like shooting in the dark.. hehe makes it intersting though.

    I guess the next question would be how did you install xorg? I think if you just go with xorg, first it gives you a list of all the groups IN xorg, and if you hit enter for all, it gives you libgl groups, enter for default gives you like 118 packages.

    Did you just install xorg-server and all it's dependencies? Or was there even more stuff that needed to be installed outside of the entire xorg grouping?

    If I remember right, on my media server I just got lazy and installed Manjaro, which I'm fairly certain is Archlinux with either the Cinnamon or Mate desktop with it's own GUI package installer and some other nifty tools. Haven't really had the need to look at it in a few months though, which is why it's hard to remember. ;)

    Working out fine, depends what distro you install. Raspbian the default has debian and is a bit older and out dated in a lot of areas, but stable and reliable.

    Arch is more updated and cutting edge, but a bit more manual work and time to get it up and running what you want. I have yet to unbox my pi3, been saving that for a later date, i imangine it has a bit more pep then this pi2, but i can manage on this.. I did have to plug in a USB drive and setup a swap on it when running a desktop and doing large compiles, otherwise it ran out of
    memory and froze.. but otherwise decent for the money.

    And this one is just verifying it acts the same as an external editor for Golded. Softwrap is finally doing what I've always wanted it to do by wrapping at word boundaries at the end of the line, rather than breaking apart words making readability kind of ridonkulous.

    Much like vim's "set lbr" setting in vimrc, nanorc may soon have a "set atblanks" setting to use together with softwrap to make things nicer on the eyes.

    Nice, I've actually been using nano a bit more lately to edit files for
    Enthral when i was fixing a few issues,, the syntax highlighting and line number stuff is pretty nice actually when you set it up. Although i still
    like a full GUI IDE for really digging through multiple code files and multi-tasking..

    And this one is just verifying it acts the same as an external editor for Golded. Softwrap is finally doing what I've always wanted it to do by wrapping at word boundaries at the end of the line, rather than breaking apart words making readability kind of ridonkulous.

    Much like vim's "set lbr" setting in vimrc, nanorc may soon have a "set atblanks" setting to use together with softwrap to make things nicer on
    the eyes.

    Nice, I've actually been using nano a bit more lately to edit files
    for Enthral when i was fixing a few issues,, the syntax highlighting
    and line number stuff is pretty nice actually when you set it up.
    Although i still like a full GUI IDE for really digging through
    multiple code files and multi-tasking..

    I've always wanted to use nano as an external editor for both the BBS as well as Golded, but while using softwrap it was wrapping in the middle of words at the edge of the window, making it ugly and hard to follow. So I started using vim with the "set lbr" option and while it was nice, I still don't really care for vim, and have always been more used to the shortcuts of nano.

    Now that I've gotten the devs attention, a patchset has been created to simply add an option to nanorc (just like the one vim already has), and I'm using it now with a self-compiled nano-2.8.4. However, at this point if I'm in the console and just type "nano" it uses the one installed by pacman, which doesn't
    yet have the feature. I always forget to use the one I compiled myself. ;)

    I have to keep them both in order to use the feature I requested, but also know
    when it has been added to the next release so I can upgrade and get rid of the one I compiled.

    Excellent. I can go back to using Golded rather than Jamnntpd for quick message
    scans. Jamnntpd would be a bit better if you could specify a different username
    for each area like you can with this, but you can't. I think you would have to have different accounts and re-login every time, which I have no interest in.

    Pretty neat, i never did like how it would side page the line instead of wrapping, of course i've never really dug deep in all of the command options and i can't stand vim. No matter how many times i look at all the command
    keys or quick keys, once i start editing anything i feel like i just screw it all up casue the commands are ass backwards haha..

    I still rather use a GUI editor for code though, small scripts nano is pretty sweet though. Which reminds need i have to start on an all new FSE soon as well.. :)

    Mainly just for tinkering with UTF-8. Not just the stuff that can be reverse engineered to and from CP437, but all of UTF-8. ;)

    Plus, when using Golded or Jamnntpd, you can get through 200+ message areas real quick, whereas on a BBS it takes quite a bit longer. Granted, Nightfox's message reader mod as well as Mystic's reader add a LOT of speed to using a BBS
    for messaging, so there's that.

    I just like to tinker with multiple things, I guess.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Oblivion/2 of course.. Yep still working on it, it's a ground up rewrite which takes a while with the limited time i have from work and school, but it's coming along nicely. A few basic screens are up on Github.. https://github.com/m-griffin
    Even thought i got the minimun requirements for obv/2 xrm working on the pi2 with upgraded jessie, it was still a pretty out of date distro with gcc 4.9 etc.. So that was part of the motivation to wipe and upgrade to Arch linux
    and get the latest going.. mainly curiosity casue i haven't run arch in
    several years i wanted to see what else ran on this thing.. and when i did i found GCC 7 and a lot of holy hell to get Enthral working again while i work
    on the new code.. So i took time to upgrade and threw in several fixes to get the system back up.. Sorta glad i did too, there were a few nasty bugs in
    there that wern't really handled well on the older compilers.
    So now it's back to work on obv/2 .. or XRM is what i call it for short..
    Nothing wrong with that.. One thing would be nice if more Telne Apps did full UTF-8 support.. Otherwise your pretty much stuck with terminal for that.
    Ah wish i had more time for tinkering.. Can't wait for school to end, could years left if i don't quit.. lol.. I do a lot of front and backend dev at work now a days and would be cool to integrate more of that into a bbs as well. Only thing is i need to finish what i'm working on first.. haha.. I always get stuck in rabbit hole of making stuff as configurable as possiable.. and that add like 100% more work to getting simple stuff out and done..
    I keep forgetting, you're doing school very part time, correct? From what I remember, you've been in school for the better part of 10 years! ;)
    Dude, I know what you mean. As soon as it turned colder here I got sick, and haven't been able to get rid of the cough and runny nose. Then again, I work outside every day so it's probably a lot harder to shake it. lol
    Not much new, besides winning some chicken dinners in PUBG. ;)
    Looks good now. It could also have been something to do with one of the Synchronet/SBBSEcho updates where you were supposed to run a .js script or something in order to move some settings to an .ini file. I fell victim to that
    as well. ;)
    seems my FTN network setup has not been correct lately.
    Yeah, I ran the update .js script, but it looks like I had an incomplete configuration. I didn't have any 'domains' set up and didn't have any nodelists set up in my sbbsecho configuration, so perhaps it didn't know where to route my messages. I was running Radius but also set up BinkIt recently, and I think I'm just going to use BinkIt for now. I like having something that's more integrated with Synchronet so I don't have to run another piece of software.
