• ANSI Art

From WEATHERMAN@46:1/263 to All on Thu Jul 2 15:51:07 2015

Not sure why completely, but it seems like putting together a networked ANSI Art Gallery isn't going to work properly.

I have seen inbound ANSI here with no issues and also see it locally in my message area. Don't know if only other WWIV systems can see ANSI posted from WWIV or if there is no other reason.

When I //LOAD an ANSI into my BBS editor, it looks like junk (escape characters
and all types of garbage). Then once I post it to my message area and go back and read it - it looks perfect (colors and all).

It seems like all BBS systems handle it differently from what I'm gathering. Sucks, as I really wouldn't mind seeing another networked ANSI art collection like the old days.

I think you'd have to do it as a door... Maybe a type of bulletin menu
that when a packet was recieved via FTN it would un pack it and replace /
    add onto the menu.

    Just thinking out loud.

echicken has started a door interface for sixteen colors, that currently works for Synchronet. Works pretty well, although it's still a little rough around the edges. But, something like this is possible. :)

Can see it here on Capitol Shrill in my doors section "Other Programs"

So basically like a door that would ready a custom message area so that things would be viewed properly? Sounds like a good idea.

I really never thought ANSI posts like that would result in different viewing experiences depending on the BBS and/or reader/viewing software.

I never tested it before since typically FTN networks don't like/want ANSI messages. Apparently I had erased or somehow lost all the old WWIV based ANSI Art Gallery posts from decades ago. It was nice seeing some great artwork while scanning messages.

    Nice!

Too bad it is javascript and not usable on my system. Does this door allowing people to post or just view the ANSI packs/collections?

I'm fairly certain that any ANSI message that anyone on here posts, I would see
here in my BBS with no issues. It would be nice to figure out the exact combination on why some can't see it properly.

In some cases it seems to be characters per line related. In other cases, it might be the viewing software.

What is interesting is one person running Synchronet could see the ANSI fine and another couldn't.

No posting, it's just a viewer using their API.
