Ummmm... OK. But how would you know if they were, or not? Would they usually tell you that voluntarily?
Maybe it was the apostrophe that threw me off.

I wonder if evidence collected by a fed that joined The Viper's
BBS without a warrant would be valid, since the signup would have
been done against the ToS of the board. Maybe it is not about
preventing feds from joining but about limiting what they can
make use off :-)

I would think putting that in the ad might cause them to take
notice. :D

stamp those. IANAL.

AFAIK, it's pretty much meaningless legally. Any "fed" signing in
for legal reasons wouldn't need to follow that rule/exclusion,
and anyone that respected the rules might side with #1A would be
excluded from any conversation. It could even trigger unwanted
attention if noticed.
It's mostly virtue signalling.

My guess is that putting that statement in an advertisement does not establish that policy as a "ToS" for the board. There's no indication
that a potential user has to AGREE to that as a condition of use. It *might* be different if there is a questionaire during the signup that
asks that specific question and requires you to answer, but just the advertisement alone -- I think not.
It's mostly virtue signalling.Nah man, it's in the United States TOS. All users under federal service must legally disclose that fact when questioned.

Hmmmmm.... you sure about that? Doesn't seem likely to me. An (admittedly quick) Google search doesn't indicate that.
It's definitely part of the lore of old dial-up BBSes. Most of 1337 BBSes new user apps would ask if you were a "Fed" (or we as would say, a "Ph3D!!")

Definitely reminds me of what the entire 813 scene called our local WWIVnet region op. They just called him the "NARC".

415 here. We had a pretty decent scene here, I remember a Forum BBS that had a whole shareware facade; you'd hit a hidden menu item to get to the real BBS.
How do you think they get undercover agents into AntiFa, Proud Boys...?

Show me in the U.S. Code where it says that. Law enforcement is
absolutely allowed to lie, and in many conditions even break the law.

It's a riff on the "You have to tell me if you're a cop, it's in the Constitution" joke

never heard it.

It's actually a line in a movie or two.

Now I'm wondering if it's a generation thing. Roughly every millennial knows the "You have to tell me if you're a cop" joke (probably because of Breaking Bad)
I've never watched Breaking Bad, but I've seen people say that online.

I recommend that you watch it. Then El Camino (movie), then Better Call Saul.
