However, the local government doesn't want them... and the actions on the ground don't warrant federal intervention. I took my 16 year old son downtown today. We WALKED thru the area by the federal courthouse. Even bought a shirt. It's not time for the feds - yet they are here. And, hell if yer gonna be here then DO THE JOB quick and swiftly. Shut it down and move along.. but no, they're just riling everyone up... creating more injuries and issues for the news stations to blow up each night.

Were you there at night? :)

Not last night... and yes it pops off at NIGHT ---> but Portland doesn't want help and my point is that it isn't to the point of the CHOP in Seattle...
which is what the cutoff for me is.

However, I kinda like what happened today - the feds are going to backoff
*IF* Portland local government takes care of the issue within 14 days. All I mean is that I support local governments being allowed to handle - and put up with - as much as they want.

Till they ask for help, OR
till the protesters up the ante and step over the line. For me, the line
    isn't spray painting and....

its violence, actualy destruction of property or taking over an area. (Like CHOP/CHAZ).

The assholes in Seattle were *FAR* less destructive than the

You don't think there has been violence and destruction of
property there in Portland? How can you POSSIBLY think that,
especially when you friggin LIVE there?

What do you call this: https://www.oregonlive.com/crime/2020/07/city-multnomah-county-detail-violence-cost-of-repairs-damage-in-response-to-dont-shoot-portlands-motion-to-restrict-tear-gas-less-lethal-weapons.html

I'm impressed that the police haven't used real bullets yet,
because that's what I'd be doing. Fuckin anarchists and thugs is
what they are, they're not "protesting" anything. They think this
    crap is fun. Fuck them.

I'm on the same side as you.. they're assholes, fuck them. I'm from Texas... I've only lived here for a year - in Texas the local government would have
shut this down the first weekend that it was happening..

And yes, I *see* the spray painting and broken windows... sure do. But they haven't taken over a city block(s) as their own; AND the local government
seems to be ok with handling it their way.

I suppose thats what I support... if the local gov thinks they have it under control, the local businesses aren't suffering nor saying to stop the protesters... then leave the fed out of it.
The day that they take over any areas in the city, or like... burn down a building, etc - then the fed should step in - well, the local gov should step in but IF they don't...

I just think that they have it right as of yesterday; the fed is backing out, and the local gov has 14 days to get it under control. These people are different than my Texan brothers... they're allowed to be. Its America. They voted it in this way... so, let em have it.

No, I don't agree with it and think that they should shut it down the moment protesters go beyond voices and signs.

I do support them being allowed to handle, but if they start to allow
people to vandalize/destroy federal offices or property, I support the
    federal government defending those areas.

My opinion in general is that most things should be handled on the local or state level.

Till they ask for help, OR
till the protesters up the ante and step over the line. For me, the line isn't spray painting and....

its violence, actualy destruction of property or taking over an area. (Like CHOP/CHAZ).

My local stations were ignoring what was going on up there until within the past week. Something changed that got them interested. People trowing
bricks at cops, starting fires, throwing explosives... that got Portland on
the news here. Just because Portland's mayor wants to put up with that,
and doesn't think it is violent enough does not mean the citizens should
have to put up with it.

No doubt. Probably in any other state too, besides the hardcore
    socialist "blue" states.

The local businesses *ARE* suffering. Who do you think owns the
broken windows and spray painted walls? They're either scared to
speak out, or they're being ignored by the local government.

The day that they take over any areas in the city, or like...
burn down a building, etc - then the fed should step in - well,
the local gov should step in but IF they don't...

They take over certain areas every single night, and I'm pretty
sure some stuff has been burned down.

I just think that they have it right as of yesterday; the fed is
backing out, and the local gov has 14 days to get it under
control. These people are different than my Texan brothers...

Yeah, I guess. Hard to believe anybody *wants* things that way.

No, I don't agree with it and think that they should shut it down
the moment protesters go beyond voices and signs.

They've gone *WAY* beyond voices and signs, and have done so every
fuckin night for the last two months. It saddens me to see a
local "government" that soft and ineffective. Also the locals
that don't put a stop to this bullshit themselves.

Well, for example theres a very popular nightclub here, Dante's... on their
FB page they show photos of a huge banner on their building saying 'FEDS GO HOME'... and they allow these antifa folks to have a platform; basically unchallenged- because when normal folks talk out about them, they start in
with DOXing them and.... ask me how I know.

Seems like the LOCAL businesses here ARE these blue, antifa supporting folks
    - and that antifa goes easy on the.... publicly supportive biz's. Most of the damage is to big corporation biz's, banks, targets, etc - but yes... I'm sure there are plenty of local places that don't speak up AND suffer.

You're right. But at some point I'm like... well, they live here. They vote here... I'm outta here, man. I'll be back in Austin just as quick as I feel safe with the covid stuff.

Then they (those businesses) are assholes right down to the core,
