You know in some ways, I think that in the end, if nothing could evolve to anything intelligent or sentient it would just prevent a lot of potential suffering

The material world is a duality. There is no escaping it. There is much to love and be joyful about in life. But there is much sorrow and pain. Love and hate. Good and evil. You cannot have one side without the other.

With great suffering comes the opportunity to know great joy. Indeed, one could argue that it isn't humanely possible to truly know the greatest pleasures of life if one has not suffered. Much as one cannot fully understand the joy of being on the mountaintop if they've never trudged through the dark valley.

If it's nothingness you wish for, we will have it soon enough. We all goes back to where it started. In the meantime, seek out the light in the midst of suffering. Lest your suffering be in vain.

Animals suffer all the time. The difference is they do not know any better, nor have the reasoning ability to change their conditions. They either die
off on their own or their ailment prevents them from find a mate or reproducing.

I have a feral tomcat on my property, and either he was injured escaping from a hawk or owl, or even he crawled up into a warm engine compartment, and his back was inured attempting to escape. He's unable to hunt on his own, and I d oubt he can mount another cat, so he suffers each day, with the wired-in instinct to survive keeping him alive. He doesn't feel pity for himself or wish for a quick death. That's all he knows. I have considered putting him out of his misery, but he doesn't seemed to be struggling too bad despite his condition. He shows up at the food dish and purrs when he is pet, as long as he isn't touched around the crooked part of his spine.

In the end we don't really get to decide if life in general is worth it. We only get to decide if OUR life is worth it. For every "great mind" who suggests life may not be worth it I'm sure there is another who says it is.

My general observation is that when I'm "working on this" I see others doing the same, and when I'm not, I'm not seeing it in others either. The more work I do in my own life the more I see others doing the same. Sure, there is a lot of divisiveness out there... but the key for me to see past it is to conquor my own.

we were meant to build our own dwellings, grow our own food and livestock and work hard and raise children. when you do these things you have a sense of accomplishment and you are happy. when you do things LIKE that you get a sort of pseudo sense of accomplishment.

anyways, that is how we were designed, and if you want to be happy that might work.

also stupid people are more likely to be happy. maybe they are easily amused, i dunno.

i'm not really happy going to work every day but i do it so i can have things. ---

Pandemic aside, it actually amazes me that we in the west haven't been using masks

Of all the trips I took on Ligne 13, sometimes being bathed by the sweat of the

has because of social distancing and masks.

Purely on a Parisien level, I think we've all re-calculated our personal space requirements from what they were to what any other country would consider as normal
