Just had to reinstall my system as I coud not figure out why netmail was not passing through my system.
Things seem to be working fine now I believe.

Qwk routing was working, what was broken is the delivery of both netmail and echomail on fidonet type networks going out from my system.
Inbound was fine.

this guy DID take the shotgun approach.

did you get your termonology wrong and you are asking if there's another
way instead of what khronos did?

digitalman was providing the correct information.

what i would do to fix qwk problems [which you shouldn't even have problems, because qwk is super super easy]

+check your settings
+check your firewall
+check logs and real time info
+change between pasv and active mode and observe
+use nntp instead because it's even easier.

Old post now... but replying anyway. I like a lot about NNTP, but it could be simplified a little bit more even. Keep thinking an index baseed API from a known base path could work really well. It could use KV db on an edge provider such as Cloudflare, Deno Deploy, vercel, etc.

index for list of groups, with highest message id per group
newline separated json - record per line
GET <basepath>/groups/:groupId?start=:lastReadId&limit=:count
index of message headers since LAST_READ
newline separated json - record per line
GET <basepath>/groups/:groupId/:messageId
Message contents

Where the structure is JSON in UTF-8 (any other charset converted).
