Hello Sam,
Now that the No Code rule is going into effect in the US, any Techs out there looking to upgrade sooner? I got my Tech ticket last year, and
Yep. I've tried learning the code over the years, but I always hit a brick wall halfway through the alphabet. I start to forget what I've already earned. ;-)
Something else, do you guys think there'll be an influx of CB users coming to the ham bands? I figured die hard radio users on the CB
I don't think that'll happen anytime soon. Most CBer's just love to cuss, and
the FCC would be pulling privlidges left and right. I'll admit that I got my start in CBing, and I still do it. I try not to get drawn into all of the colorful language though.
And finally, I've heard that some old-schoolers (or OF's) are planning on looking down at folks who get their general or extra after the

Oh well, they'll just have to get over it.

That is a dumb stero type, as I started in CB's too, but the people I chatted with were just like the hams I delt with, sure you can run into those people who give CBerr's a bad name, but I think most are decient people

It varies wildly by location... we have a repeater here that is simply shock to any good operator - and it's amateur. Of course, 80m is always a place t listen to idiots.
Growing up where I did though, CBs were relatively clean and used by everyon But we've been places where you simply couldn't leave the CB on with kids in the car.

things like looking for work, playing with the BBS, cleaning up the house, etc. I've kinda not been studying.... I took the test recently and passed it one time, failed it once, I need to keep taking the test more, wished I had more time to study!
activity on it, but when I had a 11 Meter hooked up there was alot of activity on it. Maybe I'll find more activity on HF when I get such a rigI know the feeling, but over here, we get sick and tired of the repeater not working right. ;-) In my truck I have 10 & 12 on HAM @ 25 watts, and CB @ 4 watts. Got a friend with a all-band and a quad-band in his van. He's running 3-4 antennas with an auto-tuner. I've got a slick little antenna tuner, I highly recommend for the HF hams on a budget! Either way, neither of us have really had issues with HF antennas on vehichles. The only complaint I have is weather conditions really affect 10 and 12 meters!
;P But my main operating station is mobile, and HF antenna don't seem to work well on trucks ;P
