It's a broad hobby... perusing the ARRL Operators Manual will give you an overview of the more popular aspects and specialties. The electrical engineering and boatanchor part isn't covered, but almost everything else is
So first, you would need to figure out which aspect of the hobby interests y most... then have a look into how much it owuld cost to dive in.
