    I go to take my tech test Saturday. Studying hard to pass it...

    Visit http://www.qrz.com/ and setup an account. Without a ham license,
    you can use any screen name you want. Once you get licensed, you then
    can use your ham license as your screen name. This is really awesome
    for preparing! I can't express how much better this site is over some
    of the others. You log-in so it can track your work. It knows then
    when you have answered every question correctly, what questions you need
    to work on, etc. It also will tell you what categories those questions
    you missed are from so you can study the entire pool of questions....

    BTW, yes I know the Welcome to Roach Guts over-writes the text.... I'm
    going to fix that hopefully soon....

    I had some study guides I downloaded from somewhere else that someone in
    here recommended. If I can find the links on my laptop, I'll put them
    either on the website or here (unless someone else post), it does a great
    job of teaching what you need to know. Do a search for HAM CRAM on google.
    it's a powerpoint presentation. Another is a .pdf file of pretty much every
    thing on the test, why, what the answer is, etc. Way too much information.
    Read through it first, then do the ham-cram powerpoint presentation, then
    start taking the test. If you have any knowladge of electronics, that gives
    you a major boost!

    I had a ham radio once.
    one day I forgot to put it back in the fridge and the flies got it.

    It's a broad hobby... perusing the ARRL Operators Manual will give you an overview of the more popular aspects and specialties. The electrical engineering and boatanchor part isn't covered, but almost everything else is.

    So first, you would need to figure out which aspect of the hobby interests you most... then have a look into how much it owuld cost to dive in.
