It should come as no surprise that ham radio operators are drawing comparisons between Pokémon GO and Amateur Radiosport.

I'm not surprised, but that doesn't make this article not retarded.

Agreed. The writer got himself addicted to Pokemon apparently.

My wife plays it. I would have never drawn a parallel to ham radio or even contesting honestly. I dunno.

Niantic's earlier game, Ingress, was fun to play using ham radio to
communicate with buddies during events or coordinate late-night "attacks" on the other faction.

I liked the concept of Ingress, though these sort of games don't yet fit in with my lifestyle. Anyway gameplay would have to be opportunistic, adapting to my regular movements, rather than my movements being for gameplay. :)

Ingress and Coderunner for IOS were great lunch hour games for me -- could easily put them to rest after 3 minutes or so and created a nice diversion while getting out and getting some steps.

Some Ingress players drive around in a car to the various locations. My favorite method was to park on Main Street and just start hiking all around
the city. I could easily get several miles of walking in and have fun playing also.

Cool. :) One way to use them and get some variety in your walks. :)

That would work. My issue is a lot of commitments, and also a lot of sport training. Both affect the intensity and duration of walks I can do (in different ways). :)

You definitely lose intensity if you're trying to operate the phone and walk.

Yes, even for walking, using a phone makes a difference. I go from 8 min/km or faster down to around 9 minutes/km when concentrating on the phone. But my more important training is much more intense. For example, here's today's track session - at these speeds, it's hard enough to operate a stopwatch, let alone a phone! :)
