Probably depends on if your old monitor was a CRT or a widescreen
Flat Panel. I wouldn't think a 24" Wide Screen would be much taller
than a 17" CRT so, unless you're watching movies or made for wide
screen games the overall picture ends up being not much larger.
That's one of the reasons I'm still using my old 19" CRT.
Burns more juice but faster refresh rates and a bigger picture than
most of the Flat Panel monitors...
