PCI Express sound cards

Hi all -
I'm thinking about buying a new sound card for my PC, and I'm curious about what PCI Express sound cards on the market are good for audio tasks (listening to music and movies and such). Does anyone have any recommendations?
The sound card I'm currently using is an Auzentech X-Fi Forte, which I bought a couple years ago in the hopes that it would be an overall good card for gaming and music, etc. But one annoying thing about it is that sometimes the audio becomes distorted after a while, and I have to stop & re-start the Windows Audio service for the audio to sound normal again. Also, these days I don't play games as much as I used to, so I'm thinking a card geared more toward music & movies and such would be good.
It sounds like the Asus Xonar cards are fairly good, and it looks like the Xonar Essence STX is the latest in that line, but it costs around $180-$200. I was hoping to spend up to around $100-$120 or so..
