Subject: InstallShield apps taking forever to install

Recently I built a new PC, and as I've been installing software on it, I've noticed that some software takes forever to install and/or un-install (i.e., Nero 10 and LightScribe system software took a very long time). The common thing between these apps is that they may all be using InstallShield, but I' not sure. Has anyone experienced this and found a way to fix it?

ya sometimes install shield can take a while, it is install shield itself most likly there is no real fix, if it was one program install that was slow i would say it could be a config problem but with multipul ones i would just bet its install shield, sorry there is not other help i could give, but nothing can really be done

It's strange though because I've installed these same apps on other computers I've had, and they haven't taken this long. Normally a program installs within about 1-5 minutes, but what I was seeing was that these installers would get to a point where they were checking something and they would just sit there for a long time. It seemed abnormal.

yes that does happen, if your computer is unhealthy or sometimes based on the configuration, however not alot can be done with the configuration from computer to computer, it depends on the hardware installed and how it is configured, and in those cases you may be able to do something by changing the hardware or reconfiguring it, however, this will obviously effect your computer in general. one example of what i mean is, if you have a scanner or modem in your computer you obviously do not want to get rid of a scanner or modem just for the sake of install shield working at a higher speed, however there is one thing you can try i guess, increase the size of you paging file or if you have windows vista or windows 7 and also have an extra thumbdrive or flash card laying around try using speed boost, i have speed boost running on my windows 7 machine, a 4 gig flash card plus the 4 gigs in my machine already which brings it to 8 gigs, i had a few speed issues in my machine with certain things too and alot of the problems where fixed when i installed this, just install the flash card, and go into my computer, right click on the drive icon for the flash card, make sure the card is empty and also try to use one that is at least 4 gigs, go into properties for that flash card through the card's drive icon and when the properties window opens click the speed boost tab and select "decicate to speed boost" then click ok, you have now added 4 more gigs of ram to your machine and you should see the speed of alot of things pick up alot! hope this helps!!
