I found the main.cfg file and the xtrn.file it was located in the ctrl directory but when I update scfg and then run ./sbbs
    it gives me this error

This is the wrong message area for Synchronet support questions. See http://wiki.synchro.net/howto:support for details.

Type 'locate main.cnf' at a command prompt and paste the output in one the Synchronet support message areas.

    joshua@joshua-HP-15-Notebook-PC:~$ locate main.cnf /home/joshua/Desktop/main.cnf
    /sbbs/exec/main.cnf

Neither of those appear to be a Synchronet "ctrl" directory. How did you install Synchronet? Do you also have msgs.cnf, xtrn.cnf, and text.dat in either of those same directories?
