I'm calling out to anyone who knows about the dell dimension v333c.

I have a 5.25 floppy drive and I'm trying to find a system that will support it. Most systems today don't support 5.25 floppy drives and this is a bios limitation, in addtion to the floppy socket missing from today's systems.

I have an older dell dimenion v333c including the documentation for it.
I've checked the bios and it shows a selection for 5 1/4 with 1.2 meg and 320k.

I've got a cable with the proper pinout but I keep getting a post error about the A: drive.

I've disconnected the original 3 1/2 1.44 meg drive so the only floppy is the 5 1/4 drive.

Does anyone have experience with the dell dimension and 5.25 floppy drives?

I also have a dimension 2400 with a pentium 2 and pentium 4. I've attempted to hook up the 5.25 in the 2400 pentium 4 and although the 5.25 drive led is on no drive is shown to be present.

I'm trying to put a pc together that supports 5.25 inch disc, usb, and ethernet.

Please shoot me a line if you have any info or another contact with someone who does.

I also have an optiplex 260 but I'm pretty sure that system has no support for a 5.25 floppy.

deviceside.com makes a usb controller for it.

    Thank you Mro.

    That's a cool device, ... I need, ... well I really want write ability.

Its so strange the older systems I have show support in the bios for these 5.25 drives but they don't support it physically or something. I'm not sure why the system doesn't recognize it.

I have a compaq beast! 1600 and it does support it but it has no USB support and its a giant of a system. So ... I've got to keep looking around maybe I can find something. I want to get rid of that compaq but its the only life line I have to this drive and the discs. I suppose read is good enough if I can make images.

    Again Thank you.

OK I had to give up on those systems. ... The compaq 1600 did have support for the drive, but that system was just a beast. All systems went back to storage.

But one system works! Dell Optiplex GMT 5133. This system from 1996,1997 not sure completely works. I just put dos 6.22 on it and I'm currently loading up those old floppies, both 3.5 and 5.25 1.44, 1.2 (respectively). Its nice to have read/write ability.

Next get that old system online. I've got the 3com ether III so now to put my dos cap on (hasn't been on for over a long long time).

Mro.. thanks for the post. I checked out the USB device and if it had write support I would have went that route but the local recylcer had some old systems and put together the Optiplex for me.
