Would heat be the big issue or hardware failure if my computer is
randomly turning off for no reason?

could be the processor paste is dried up and not allowing processor to cool properly. I recently had the same issue and this turned out to be "my" cause.

Just went through that with an old A8 system... I didn't really give it t he cooling and airflow it needed, and my GF played a ton of Diablo 3 on it. Wh en I went to replace the OEM heatsink/fan combo and put a jumbo one on, the hea tsync grease was so charred, I ended up pulling the chip out of the locked ZIF socket when trying to remove the heatsink. Cleaned it up and put some fresh ar ctic silver on it, new Enermax ETS-T40F-RF, and the idle dropped from about 52c to 41c (the AMD APU's just run freakin' hot, so it actually is a win).

That's a great idea. I should take my BBS down and replace the paste on it, it's running around 63c while running the BBS and a shoutcast stream.

i'm not sure how long that paste even STAYS paste. i dont think anybody has even checked. i wonder if it's even a big deal if you use it or not.
if it's all dried up and cruddy it's counter productive. maybe it's better to have processor on heatsink and nothing at all in the long run.
