I know this is random but it's something thats been pissing me off.

These android photo frames are basically a scam to get you to do a monthly subscription.

Many of them are rigged so you can not show much more than 15 seconds of a video unless you pay more. it's a big scam. you can end up paying 50-75 bucks for something that's crippled. I finally hooked it up and just copied over a bunch of mp4s and it wont deal with it even though it should do fine. it wants me to do the app and trim them....or pay the monthly subscription to unlock it.

it's better to just make your own.

I guess i can get in via adb but people are having problems because when they use a different app it can't take input.

oh on reddit this is what someone's been working on.
i might put a remote desktop app on there to control it.

"Not sure where to put this but I wanted to let people know. I've been looking for a photo frame that has wifi but doesn't rely on 3rd party clouds. I found this 10.5" 1920x1280 frame that runs android 8.1. It has a usb port on the back and if you enable the "beta program" in settings it allows you to connect with ADB, open shell and install apps. there is also root access.

the frameo app can't see photos added to the sd card while the app is running, you have to remove/reinsert the sd card for it to notice the new files.

I installed nova launcher through adb and uninstalled the default frameo app. i then installed syncthing and fotoo. i made syncthing run as root so it could access the SD card and everything is working great so far. fotoo scans whatever folder you point it at and periodically looks for new files and adds them to
    the slideshow.

There are some quirks, there is no status bar or navigation buttons so i had to use adb to virtually press the "home" and "back" buttons. the brightness is
only adjustable through the frameo app, trying to use the slider in the android settings crashes the settings app. I'm guessing they were removed by the OEM
and it could be fixed by a new ROM but I don't know much about it. there are adb commands to change brightness. you can't have both a flash drive and the usb cable attached at the same time, (you can use the sd card slot and the cable at the same time though).

A few other notes, there is no ambient light sensor, and despite what the amazon listing says, there is no motion sensor.

Here is ADB with product info and root access: https://i.imgur.com/xtyiIf9.png. CPU info: https://i.imgur.com/29TvTVK.png

Here is the frame running fotoo! https://i.imgur.com/3T3qlVm.jpg"

some of these limit how many apps can run at a time so that's another
hurdle. i should just make my own.

That is very interesting. So.. BF is not necessarily the

How do you pull up the price history.. is it Keepa?

    yeah it's keepa.

    Keepa - Amazon Price Tracker

Adds price history charts and the option to be alerted on price drops to all supported Amazon sites.

amazon is really pulling some tricks this year though.
they aren't making the numbers they did in covid times.

I'm such a big amazon customer they used to send me credits for prime and they dont anymore.

another thing is this kids toy.
it was a dollar more 2 weeks ago.
overall, it is about 39% off if you go by the regular price.
but it's an old item and should be 15 now anyways.

Yeah.. I don't understand the penny (or, the under $1
variations). Maybe they adjust the prices according to demand
    and viewing hits.

I'm such a big amazon customer they used to send me credits for prime and they dont anymore. -+-

Prime has changed over time (now they add select free audio
books, ebooks and streaming). Initially it was just for free,
same-day/2-day shipping. But I find that they ship out asap
anyway; I get parcels in about 2 or 3 days with the "Prime"
tape wrapped on them. Therefore, I'm not interested to dole out
    $100/yr for the other freemiums.

I recently got one of these during the Black Friday (BF) event:

    SDSSDE30-2T00-G26

..and the BF price seems to be good.

Amazon had a bunch of random stuff on sale for Black Friday, and from what I could tell, it was nothing I really needed or wanted to buy. There are a couple computer-related items I am tenatively planning on buying which weren't on sale anywhere, as far as I could tell.

I bought an Apple Mac Mini M4 (base model) at Costco a little over a week ago for $499. I think that sale ends today.

Yeah, they're a deal at the normal retail price of $599 ($579 normally at Costco), so the extra discount sort of "forced" my purchase timing. It's plenty fast though the stock storage (256GB) is pretty lame.

i dont think people can do that anymore. we're both huge amazon spenders so it's in amazon's best interest. :D

Ha! I do expect the next release of Synchronet (v3.20) to be the first to be officially supported on macOS, but certainly have no desire or plans to stop supporting Windows and the other *nixes. Who knows though, I could change my mind by March 31st. :-)
