Hello all. I just wanted to introduce myself. I'm in the Hobby group because I love to tinker. I'm 48 years old and live in northern Kentucky. I've got a woodshop in my basement that includes a CNC router that I put together myself. I've also got a corner set aside for dabbling in electronics. I've got a couple or so Arduinos and a Raspberry PI. Upstairs in my office, I've got a 3D printer that I'm more focused on these days.

I read the first couple messages in this forum/conference and they were talking about model railroads. I never got into that hobby but my grandfather was a total fanatic. By the time he passed away, he had left behind a beautiful village that spanned two walls, stretching at least 40 feet. His was all n-gage sized trains.

Well, that's me. Looking forward to meeting everyone!

    James

Hello Freymoore and welcome to SBBS Land!

I'm originally from Cincinati, however moved up here to Cleveland in 2012.
I'm also an electronics tinkerer. I retired from the USAF, where I did Satellite Communications. Love small single-board computers also! I just ordered a Rpi-3 to add to the Rpi collection. I have an Rpi-1 and Rpi-2 already, both of which run OSMC. The Rpi-1 is also running SBBS, which I mainly just use to lurk on these message boards. Eventually, when time really avails itself, I'd love to get around completely customizing it out: ANSI, Fidonet, Doors, etc. Ran a BBS with SBBS back in the early-mid 90's and prior to that ran a BBS with a TRS-80 Color Computer ("Coco") back in the 80's.

3D printing. Awesome! Thats on the "to do" list. My better half already thinks I dabble with too much already. :-)

    Welcome aboard!

Welcome James... Hey got a question about 3D printing... I don't know much about it but was wondering where they are maturity-wise with printing up something in a flexible material like rubber?

I needed a part for an electronic drum kit... the part after years has hardened like a rock. I placed it in a baggy of silicone for 5 days which made it somewhat pliable. I thought I was SOL but then discovered a company that sill makes the par for $10 plus S&H.

Got me thinking- how many things like this could someone make and sell on ebay, that OEM mfgrs discontinued?

Enjoy the wonderful world of bbsing,

    Thanks,
    Zombie Mambo

Welcome! The electronics & 3D printing definitely sound like fun.

Once in a blue moon I might get the urge to build a model kit. The last one I built was in 2007, a USS Enterprise A model. Then I moved a couple times and it
broke, and I eventually got tired of gluing the pieces back on and having it still
be fragile due to breaking. :/

This year I pulled out a model of the Defiant (DS9) that I had held onto since a birthday back in the 1990s. Built it with my son. We got as far as the first coat of paint, but then kinda put it on hold. Need to get it back out and finish it off.
