• German Football (as in Soccer) - anyone interested?!

From Lodger@VERT/WMUTE to All on Fri Mar 5 00:01:59 2010
    Hello fellow DOVE-Netters,

if you don't know me already, I'm "lodger" the SysOp of Wintermute BBS, located in the beatuyful town of Duesseldorf, Germany (in U.S. / Canadian dimensions we're sort of "close to" Amsterdam, Europe ;). Well, I'm very much into football (Soccer) over here in and I'm interested if anyone here on DOVE-Net might be interested in getting some information on European Football in general or Germany's second division football league?

To give you some background on my person: my favourite football club is - of course - the club of my hometown here across "the pond": Fortuna Duesseldorf. This Club has seen good times (playing the european club finals in 1979 against Barcelona) and, at least for the past ten years, very bad times getting down to 4th division (1st div. being the highest league in Germany). If you're into baseball, think "Cleveland Indians" here.

Anyway, we're back in 2nd division this season, and we might get promoted to 1st div. if things work out right.

So, if you're at least a little bit interested in stuff like this, let me know.

    Kind regards,
    Lodger

Ya, I would have to agree there. Actually, ANY form of soccer.

Is there any other form of soccer? Here we call it soccer, there they call it futbol or whatever. Same thing. Same sport, always has been, always will be.

Footbal should'nt be called Football beacause it's mainly played with the hand.. I beleive the Americans just ripped off the term because futball has always been so popular.. and yes I love futbal (soccer) but I love Football too :) but I would take Nascar over both.. and if anyone wants to be a bigot and call me a redneck more power to ya... I don't care to be called a redneck.. I have a lot of redneck friends and they are some of the best people on earth.. they would give you the shirt of their back and the last bag of beans in their cabinet :)

always been so popular.. and yes I love futbal (soccer) but I love Football
I like hockey, nothing like watching a guy smack another guy with a
wooden stick! It's why I think football should be played with all team
members carrying an aluminum baseball bat.... Perhaps you could fill the
inside of the bats with lead and it'd be a little more fun... Give one guy
the ball and a bat, he attempts to make it to the other end of the field,
and any and all players on the other team are allowed to hit him with their
bats anywhere they please as often as they please ... If he should drop the
ball, its fair game for anyone to pick it up... I guess we could give
two players on each team a stun gun... Maybe give the center a cattle prod.
One of these days the NFL will see things my way... When they do, they
won't be worried about wearing a cup so much as coming up with new forms
of protection for the cattle prod to the groin move....

I was a fan of Soccer when I was younger, hell I even played for years when I was a kid. Nowadays, I don't watch it much at all.

I don't care what people say about Nascar, really. I was never really a fan, just because of the fact that I'm more of a drag racing fan. It's awesome watching the pileups and nudging and all that, but the races that that doesn't happen much in, are pretty boring, IMHO. Although 200mph in a quarter mile is freaking breathtaking.. every time.

I can't say I really know too many actual rednecks. Though my interpretation of a real redneck is like Cledus from the Simpsons. I know and am friends with farmers, hunters, short oval track racers, and whatever. But they're still regular people. *shrug*

the world cup is more popular than the super bowl that was held last month, and the USA has one of the most interesting teams this year.

Yah...'cuz all them rich oil dudes want offshore oil drilling & it's gonna kill all the fish...Inland? Hell, if we allowed fishing inland where would we be able to throw our toxic waste & general trash???
Yeah, Lord knows anyone whose ever read the news paper or the the signs at
the beaches that feeds from the Gulf of Mexico knows nobody in their right
mind would eat the fish they catch. Offshore ships dump their human waste
into the gulf, combined with the dead bodies from Katrina and Rita in New
Orleans and Cameron that washed into the ocean means unless your a crab,
you probably don't have a taste for what you catch... With that in mind,
if you like torturing fish, catch them and release them, otherwise no reason
to fish in most places in the south....

completely off topic, but that reminds me of when a friend of mine took a dump in a purse and set it in a parking lot of a convience store, we staked it out at the c-store across the street and a guy picked it up and took it to his car, we could see him digging in it and then quickly right after he threw it back out :)
