    I remember the shock/surprise during the final scenes in
    Chinatown (Nicholson, Dunaway) where the Nicholson character is
    slapping the Dunaway character and she says at first what
    sounds like contradicting statements until after a few more
    slaps, the reality of BOTH statements sets in.
