Perhaps. I don't see that as a major improvement or need, but I understand why it could be considered "better" by some people.

I might be remembering wrong, but I think this question had come up before. I thought the reason for having them separate was that some sysops might choose not to add any FTN networks, so it might not make sense to have a lot of that FTN configuration in SCFG. But then again, SCFG already has "FIdoNet EchoMail and NetMail" under Networks.. What about moving that from SCFG into Echocfg? :P

That wasn't a serious request; I'm happy with where things are at in SCFG and echocfg currently.

Anything's possible. But EchoCfg is completely optional - it just modifies sbbsecho.ini. You could do that by hand. You don't strictly *need* EchoCfg.

SCFG on the other hand is not optional, as it modifies binary configuration (.cnf) files which you can't practically do by hand. SCFG also creates/updates database files and just generally does a lot more than echocfg does.

You don't technically "need" echocfg at all, but if you're going to use SBBSecho as your echomail program, then it's a nice thing to have/use. There used to be a lot more options for FTN echomail programs to be used with Synchronet/SMB (in which case, echocfg would not be relevant), but those other options have all pretty much dried up. Still, it's conceivable that someone could use a different EchoMail program than SBBSecho and a different mailer than BinkIt, in which case, they would have no use for echocfg or sbbsecho/sbbsecho.ini.

So, let's summarize: You like the option more (that I suggested) to forget/ignore the "issue" and move on with no action. Even though *YOU* started the whole thread by creating the "issue". You have now changed your mind and *DON'T* think it would be a good idea to move ECHOCFG to SCFG.

    Is that about right?

    You are one strange person.

have a lot of that FTN configuration in SCFG. But then again, SCFG already has "FIdoNet EchoMail and NetMail" under Networks.. What about moving that from SCFG into Echocfg? :P

That wasn't a serious request; I'm happy with where things are at in SCFG and echocfg currently.

it's always seemed weird that there is an echocfg separate from scfg.
