If you want to start pulling in some Newsgroups for your board, try
Eternal September. It's free and they have a LOT of newsgroups.

    http://eternal-september.org

I have been using them for while now.

There's a few others that have different newsgroups, which can be found
    e.g. under https://sybershock.com/#usenet or https://gmkeros.wordpress.com/2024/01/12/the-oldest-ttrpg-forum-on-the-net/

I checked with I2PN2 and it actually had some other mostly dead groups
    that were not on ES.

which reminds me, maybe we should sort of peer with one another for the
groups we carry. I am currently working on my own BBS, trying to make it
a portal limited to board games and ttrpg groups. we could just exchange messages between one another so we aren't limited to just eternal
    september.

just make an astraweb account and buy some gigs. if you are only using it for newsgroups and not binaries, it will last a long time.

why though, what would that benefit me for my little synchronet
installation? there are dozens of free text servers around.

The problem with using something like newslink is that articles posted
back by your BBS user are going to be under your account, so if someone
    spams, it's all on you.
I'm working on a solution where sysops can have their users
authenticate against their BBS to post on my news server so everyone
    has their own account.

You did? You just said I should get astraweb. Did you delete part of
    your message or something?
