Ukraine is already playing a key role in keeping the European economy running. In fact, extremely high energy prices should be hitting Europe much harder than they are currently doing. Yet, we see that heavy industry here is still holding its own.
Admittedly in a different form than before, but it is precisely in this that Europe demonstrates great adaptability.
Strengthening European defense capabilities is absolutely necessary and simultaneously offers new prospects for heavy industry.
German car manufacturers, and even a former car manufacturer in the Netherlands, are now switching to the production of defense equipment.
That this is necessary remains regrettable, but it is an important development for Europe's strategic independence.
It is striking that the United States under Trump actually tried to make Europe more dependent on American defense products. The opposite now seems to be happening: Europe is rapidly revitalizing its own defense industry.
Moreover, in the background, we see how Ukraine demonstrates just how quickly innovation and renewal are possible under extreme conditions. If Ukraine succeeds in winning the war and regaining its territory, reconstruction will also provide a massive economic boost to Europe. In this sense, a Ukrainian victory is important not only for Ukraine itself, but also for the future and stability of Europe.
