• Food Stamps and Lambos

USDA Secretary Brooke Rollins said on X that "we're getting closer to closing a loophole that qualifies people for SNAP benefits who drive luxury vehicles like Bentlys, Lamborghinis, and Ferraris."

I'm MAGA and everything, but this sounds wrong. Someone could have a lot of money one day, and be broke the next. It's common. And where does she come up with those brand names? A Jeep Grand Cherokee is a very luxurious and expensive vehicle. Why isn't it on the list also?

I don't blame people who receive food stamps for anything, and I don't judge them either. I was briefly on food stamps back around 2001 and I thought it was great, but was making $6.25 per hour working part time. Nobody said "You have Nike sneakers and a Roche Bobois sofa, so you can't be hungry."

She should focus on fraud and lose the jealousy over people who own fancy things.

I'm MAGA and everything, but this sounds wrong.

I think you missed something here.

They are saying that they want to close a loophole where people who don't need SNAP can get SNAP.

    Someone could have a
lot of money one day, and be broke the next. It's common. And where
does she come up with those brand names? A Jeep Grand Cherokee is a
very luxurious and expensive vehicle. Why isn't it on the list also?

I remember a long time ago, seeing a news broadcast where they were outside one of the gov't food distribution centers. Someone in a big, nice, new car pulls up. Sheh gets out, wearing a fur coat. Goes into the Center, gets her gov't food, then proceeds to toss it in the trash as she exits.

When asked why she did that, she responded that she was entitled to it but didn't want it.

Those are the people Rollins is after.

If someone has money, but spends it unwisely, that's not society's problem. Let them sell their nice car and fur coat first. Then they can qualify for SNAP.

I don't blame people who receive food stamps for anything, and I don't judge them either. I was briefly on food stamps back around 2001 and I thought it was great, but was making $6.25 per hour working part time. Nobody said "You have Nike sneakers and a Roche Bobois sofa, so you
    can't be hungry."

I did and I would be right. I've seen too many people make bad decisions (i.e. choosing to go drinking instead of using that money for food) and then wanting the taxpayers to help them.

Remember that the Lord helps those who help themselves.

She should focus on fraud and lose the jealousy over people who own
    fancy things.

If someone who can afford a fancy car is getting SNAP, she is focusing on the fraud.

The food stamp system should be reformed altogether. Maybe let someone have $100 worth of food in an emergency situation, if they qualify, but not on a monthly basis. One time deal: here's $100. Get a sandwich, and get a job.

It's too much work to find out what material possessions they own, when they obtained them, what they cost, and how much they can sell them for.

She ought to simplify the problem instead of complicating it more.

Then he should sell one of his cars to eat... It is an asset... So if someone is worth 300 million in cars and what not should get welfare??

Suppose a lady marries a guy who gives her a $100,000 wedding ring. Then he loses his job, and they apply for food stamps. Should the social worker notice that she's wearing a huge diamond ring and say "Well maam, we're gonna have to get that ring appraised before we approve your food stamp application?"

Hear me out... True story... I knew these people... Some years back a factory shut down in my hometown... and now everyones unemployed.

After being unemployed for w while, prospects not looking good... The couple I knew went to apply for welfare and they were rejected.

This was because they collected, I mean hoarded antiques. When you went into their house you sometimes couldn't find a place to sit, because of all the stuff and you sometimes didn't even want to sit because of the quality othe antique... Hoarding is the only way I can describe it... BUT it was Antiques.

They had what I thought would be 100s of thousands of dollars in antiques... Sometimes you had to turn sideways and suck in your stomach to walk in a room Antiques.

The Social Worker said they didn't qualify and that they should consider selling some of their hoard.

Money = asset, Car = asset, bling = asset, house = asset.

If you own a $400,000 you don't need welfare.

Headline today, Pelosi's husband applied doe almost 2 million in COVID loans and those loans were forgiven... They are worth 300 Million, or something like that.

If you needed it I say apply... If things are normal so be it... No million dollar home or 1/2 million dollar car. Just normal stuff the government should have your back.

Nancy and her husband got almost 2 million in tax payers money in loans that she voted to forgive.

That's weird that the social worker went to their house. I have Medicaid for prescription coverage and I have to re-apply for it on a yearly basis. They never call me or have me come in, I just send them my income documents and they base my eligibility on those.

Money = asset, Car = asset, bling = asset, house = asset.

To me it seems hard to calculate how much the assets are worth, especially the cars, and especially for a social worker to figure out.

I get it, but any car is worth more than enough money to buy food. If Secretary Rollins wants to get tough, they should get tougher than this and really rip people off the nipple.

We don't have to go down a rabbit hole. I just believe people who are eligible should be... I don't think if you live in a multi-million dollar home and have cares worth millions you should get food stamps... or whatever.

I don't know your case, and from what I do know, you sound like a hard working guy who's trying to raise and support a family...

If your rich like Nancy who got almost 2 million in COVID loans forgiven... Aaron, just use a portion of your 100s of Millions you have.

I'm all about people who need it and qualify get it.

Do you recall when DOGE was in the news at its peak there was a lady making ~100K on food stamps and whatever else she can get. She was one of those ladies who thought it is better to have 6 babies with 6 different baby daddies than to have 6 babies with only 1 baby daddy... BECAUSE you get more money.

She ^^^--- That lady needed 20 bucks for something. She went into Walmart and bought a sh!t load of soda and went out side and started pouring out the soda to get the 10 cent return on the bottle so that she could get the 20 bucks. She was filmed doing it... and that was posted and it went viral.

I saw a video of her later she complained that she had to sell her $80K SNAP SUV and they cut off her 4000/mth SNAP and made her go to work... She looked like she lost some wight and things are looking up for her health wise.

The trump admin has said they could/can balance the budget if they can get rid of all the waist and abuse, I am not saying you are in this class...

There was a headline where some immigrant from the Dominican was caught in fraud and she owes 1.4 million. They are just trying to tighten things up.

If you are a normal working class person, I have your back... If you have millions and millions in assets sell a Porsche or start stripping in your free time.

And to answer your question... The story I described was my ex-wife's uncle.

And I have your back... but I'm pissed at Nancy though.

To me it seems hard to calculate how much the assets are worth,

I don't think you need to... If you are living in a "Normal" house with your family, Ur good to go. If you live large like Barry and Mike... You know "normal"

No... "A" car need to drive yourself around for work and your family... Its okay... Having a fleet of Cars, Like Jay Leno, no...

We went from everyone getting it, more so if you were an illegal, to them having to ask some questions.

@Aaron... relax... Answer questions and ur good to go.

That's funny! Of course we can't blame her, it's the system that's letting it happen. That's just like the alkies who used to use a $1 food stamp to buy a 25 cent snack, and end up with 75 cents in coin (which could then be used to buy beer.)

Social workers can probably find out if a person lives in a luxury home by requesting their property tax receipts, or if they have a luxury car by looking at their vehicle registrations.

I live on a street with 99% extremely poor people (run down houses, plywood windows, condemned meth labs, crack houses, kids with no shoes ripping down street signs, people scavenging through the trash, etc.) But there's a person who lives a few houses down who has a Tesla (no garage though.)

If I had $37,000 the first thing I'd do is move out of this neighborhood, but not everyone sees it that way I guess. The guy's house is not the prettiest either. It looks like it used to have a store front but they filled it in with bricks.
