    Yes!

    Text consoles are a feature built into the Linux kernel itself, not
    some additional userland package like a GUI.

    Yes! I just tried it and (as noted in the WiFi thread) it sits
    diplaying an error message because of a bad SD card.

    Presumably, with a good card, it will complete boot and allow me to
    talk to it from a keyboard.

    Yes, just no GUI desktop - CLI all the way
