• Finally changed preuser.ans on my bbs!

From buanzo@21:2/161 to All on Mon Mar 9 19:29:11 2020
    Hello all!

So, finally I started making changes to my bbs' theme.

It's quite simple really but if anyone feels like checking it out and letting me know how much of a piece of... it is, then well, go ahead and let me know hahah

I have a question: I dont fully follow the distinction between menu[items]
and an ansi menu screen. In the default theme, a ans/asc file is displayed before the items from the menu, as configured thru the menu editor...

What if I wanted to replace it all?

    cheers!

In the menu editor screen go into one of the menus and hit /S for settings. There's a field for menu header. That's the one you are talking about displaying before the items. Two items above that is Display File. If you
want to display an ans or asc instead of the autogenerated menu create the
file and then put the name of it there.

Will this file be resized to fit the top of the area or shown in all its
size. Apam did a couple of ANSI images I would like to use...but they are 80x25...rather than 80x12.

They don't get resized, they replace the autogenerated menu.

If you use Menu Header then it is displayed and an auto-generated menu based
on your menu entries are shown.
If you use a Display File it replaces the autogenerated menu.

Either way whatever size you save them as (80x25 or 80x12 or whatever) is
what it is. If you use an 80x25 as the menu header then it will display the entire file and scroll part of it off the screen as it tries to display the rest of the menu. Just depends on how many items you have in the menu really.

Thank you Richard! And glad it comes from Captain Obvious, cause that's how I was feeling about this :)

    Thanks!

They don't get resized, they replace the autogenerated menu.

Thank you for the answer! I suspected this may happen.

Do you have any suggestions on resizing ANSI art I could do to learn how to
    do it?

    Again...thank you for the answer.

One thing I didn't mention is that in the Display File field you can just put the name of the file, "main, file.asc, doors.ans" whatever but in the Menu Header field you need to use the format "| DF FILENAME" with no quotes or spaces. Had to add the spaces or it would mess stuff up here.

That I don't know. I was actually trying to find a way (but didn't look very hard) to resize a couple of my headers earlier.

I've been looking as well. Can find tons of ASCII sites to resize...but
    nothing for ANSI.

If you find something...please let me know.
