    Hi all,

    A couple of questions;

    1) In scfg -> File Areas -> <Library> -> <Library> options;
    - I see two sets of requirements one at the library level and one at the file directory level. Do the library requirements override the directory level requirements, or do I need to set both the library requirements and the file level requirements?

    2) Can I global edit options like I can in Mystic? Ie can I set the requirements for all file areas at once?

    Thanks! :)

    Hi all,

    - I see two sets of requirements one at the library level and one at the file directory level. Do the library requirements override the directory level requirements, or do I need to set both the library requirements and the file level requirements?

    A user must meet *both* requirements when set to something non-blank (default allow). See http://wiki.synchro.net/access:requirements for details. So if you want all the directories of a library to have the same requirements, you don't need to set *any* of the directory-specific requirements.

    2) Can I global edit options like I can in Mystic? Ie can I set the requirements for all file areas at once?

    You can set all the directories of a library with a single operations using the Directory Defaults->Clone Settings option. But you don't need to do this for any of the "requirements" settings since you already have the library-level control with the library's "requirements" settings.

    This library-level requirements control (except for "acccess requirements") is new in v3.20, which is still in development, BTW,

    Thanks for the reply. The only reason I asked here is there are a number of people here that know Synchronet, and I like to post here to keep traffic going on the net :)

    I understand the sentiment. But now, my answer to your question (which other sysops may have now or in the future) is only here, not where Synchront support-seekers would expect to find it. :-(

    well... whist I totally understand that there are some dedicated places and spaces for Synchronet support there are a fair number of sysops active in fsxNet who run Synchronet as well.

    Admittedly I am biased towards encouraging dialogue in fsxNet but I don't think the benefit of shared learning about Synchronet is diminished just because a reply or question is discussed here vs elsewhere.

    I do appreciate you taking the time to reply to queries in fsxNet about your very cool software :-)

    I recognise your name, and I'm trying to figure out why...

    are you the guy who used to run "fusion bbs" and had a spider collection?

    If you can't see the library, you can't see the underlying file areas. I typically set the library requirements to be LEVEL 50 and leave the
    directories alone - that way you need to be logged in as an
    authenticated user to get to the files.

    I don't have any real security levels, but if I had intermediate levels,
    I could use the file directory levels to create an "elite" tier.

    I don't see a way to clone options for file areas. You can do so with
    message areas, however. It might be worth dropping a note to Digital Man
    on DOVEnet seeing if he could add that feature.

    Yeah that's me, i fell off the edge of the planet for a while.

    I did have a spider collection but I'm not looking after a dementia & alzheimers patient so I couldn't take the risk of them sticking fingers in with them so they had to go.

    I'm back now so getting a bbs back up and running :)
