But, yes, back when I ate meat I did try things like eating crickets
(it kinda felt like eating sand, though a chocolate-covered cricket
was like eating a Kit Kat.

I tried these protein bars awhile back that are made from cricket flower,
they were actually pretty good. These days they are advertising that they're made with "Acheta Protein" which I guess sounds less gross that "made from crickets".

"Acheta is a genus of crickets. It most notably contains the house cricket."

Still sounds like a lot of processing has to go into them (and preservatives).

I've noticed that canned soup is now in smaller cans. Used to
be 545ml, now down to 515ml.

I bought some bottled apple juice for the first time in over 6
months.. and notice that it tastes quite watered-down.

Yeah, that's part of this whole shrink-flation trend that seems to be happening. Give the customer the exact same packaging but with less product in it and keep charging them the same price.

I noticed that with the toothpaste I use, I used to buy the big 170ml tubes
of toothpaste, but they discontinued those in favour of smaller tubes. My
old ones used to be 144ml, they're now 136ml. Did the price drop? No, in fact it's gone up.

Actually we have gone past shrink-flation now. It is the norm to charge more for less now. In many cases, much more for much less.

Soon we'll be paying a premium for anything that is more than a scrap or morsel of food. Unless you want to go bulk Costco.

That's exactly what shrink-flation is.. I'm not sure what you mean by "gone past shrink-flation"?

Yes, at the rate we are going, you will need tweezers to pickup a Tastecake and will need to eat the entire box just to equal what used to equal a single pack. All for a higher price, too.

Gone past shrink-flation is when it is no longer something new, but expected and the norm. People expect to pay more for less now and are more shocked if you can actually get more for less.

As I suspect I will need all of the social credit points I can get, that
would be a big hit! :)

I wonder what will happen once they decide that insects have feelings and
we shouldn't eat them any more? :O

Probably also decide that insects actually produce more methane than all
other animals put together and suddenly try to eliminate them all. :P

You'll go vegan. I'm seeing a trend in "veganism", not sure if an actual trend, or a manufactured one. Funny, it's like *we* are the sheep in the abattoir now.

I once ordered a gluten free pizza. I'm pretty sure I was eating the box.

Ginger Beer and Ginger Ale are two COMPLETELY different drinks.

I mean, they're both non-alcoholic fizzy drinks with ginger flavor...

We went to see the new Avatar movie not too long ago at a VIP (19+) cinema which serves alcoholic beverages, along with full meals via in-seat service.

One drink that caught my eye was something called a "Dutch Mule" that had vodka, lime & ginger beer. That was quite tasty.

    Nifty!

When I went to bars, and wanted to order _something_, I'd get a Dark and Stormy, which is rum and ginger beer.

And it was definitely a reasonable go-to for me.
