One thing I really like about the digital units is that you can take
as many pictures as you have space for and then only print the ones
you like. With analog, it was take 20 pictures and get them
developed and you may have some good ones but would also likely have
    some bad ones too.

Agreed -- and if you don't have to pay anything for developing photos, you're more likely to take a few extra.
And better photographers went, "when it doubt, take another roll of pictures".
Now everyone can do that, and hopefully better photography is the
    result.

The analog units caused you to have to think about the photo when
snapping it. Todays digital units decide everything for you. That
can be a good thing, but can also be a bad thing creatively.

When I use my AT1, the film decides the ISO, I decide the aperture
and speed. Yeah, my Nikon D5600 can adjust the ISO to 32000 and the
Canon AT1 is limited by the film ISO.

I always liked the creativity of the manual system. But again, I
didn't like paying to develop all the mistakes with the good shots.

Can't you still change all the settings, if desired, with a good digital camera? Yeah, they have nice "easy modes" that work most of the time, but sometimes what you want and what the camera thinks is best are not aligned.

Like for me, where, while I'm just using a cellphone camera, there are instances where I'm switching the focus to manual because I know how far away my preferred focus is.

Or, less directly, switching to HDR mode so that it takes three pictures with varying exposures.

Regardless, I suppose this is like missing being able to mess around with things using Assembly code. There's a certain power and fun there, even if it's generally a terrible idea, especial for unskilled people just trying to make something work.

Normally, when using HDR, you'd need to set the camera down where it's steady so that it takes the exact same shot for all 3 (or more) exposures for HDR. With a cell phone, that can be difficult to do. Most of the time, people hold their phone in their hands when taking a photo, so it's nearly impossible to get the exact same shot each time.

I've used HDR mode on my cell phone before, holding it in my hands, and I have a feeling it makes a pseudo-HDR photo - Taking just one shot but using the raw capture to adjust the exposure a few different ways and merging those into an HDR photo.

You are correct of course, I can actually change the ISO to 100 or
200 instead of letting the camera control it. And my imagination
gets the best of me sometimes.

I remember all the photo's I took in Germany with the manual camera
and it may just be my memory and not the camera which makes me yearn
    for that again.

I don't have an example of my work to show. Thanks for posting!

It would be nice to see, how you see the world with your eyes.

I did actually create an account to view your photos, and they are
excellent! Thanks for sharing those. Very creative.

I will have to get my photos digitized for upload at some point.

    Best regards,

When my phone takes the pictures, it certainly _seems_ to go take-take-take, and saves three different photos, but I guess that's only what the front end is showing me.

Though, in the end, I'm not sure it matters; what's the difference between three photos and one photo where you just stop taking in more raw data at three different times, to get the three different exposure levels? It seems like that would be a _better_ way to get enough data and get a steadier shot.

But I'm no expert on this.

Though, yeah, any longer-exposure shot is going to be better with something less shaky than a hand.

Your memory captured the best parts, I suppose, and that involved an analog camera, so the analog camera seems best.

Yeah, makes sense to me. And nice that you have those pleasant memories, that maybe can be brought to life again by just using an analog camera.

Seems pretty neat, in the end.
