• MPY file groups

    From maskreet@21:1/114 to g00r00 on Sat Feb 15 13:04:44 2020
    Is it possible to get a listing of file groups in Mystic? Specifically, a
    list of the groups with the accompanying paths that are configured in Mystic?

    I'm writing a file lister for Mystic that will let people use their webroot
    dir to be able to list their files in a browser for people to download, and
    I'd rather not use the actual directory names.

    The only thing I see is getfgroup, but that seems to only be a user's
    currently selected group.

    You can get any group you want from MPY! You can use getfgroupid to get a group by its ID or you can use getgroup to get them by physical record position. There are message base/group versions too:

    [SNIP]-----

    count = 1
    group = getfgroup(count)

    while not group is None:

    writeln(group["name"])

    count = count + 1
    group = getfgroup(count)

    writeln('|PA')

    Thank you for this, seriously. What's getting me is I used something similar for an IP dupe check mod I wrote for Hawk. I dunno why I didn't equate just cycling through group IDs like I did with his mod.

    Also, thank you muchly for getting back to me as quickly as you did, man!

    Ehh it happens :)

    And no problem. I am just sitting at my computer ignoring what I should be doing when the messages came in, so you get the instant answers! lol

    Really... this is happening all the time, when it's not: oops it's 2am :)

    Cheers!

    Yeah, I do this all the time, most of the time against my will :)

    There is some kind of an unknown attraction lol.

    The other fact that if you skip one day you have so much to catch up is
    another good motivation. It takes me a good 2 weeks to catch up after my
    summer hiatus. I can only imagine how it can be for you since you must have like 1000 direct messages :)

    Cheers!

    After being gone for about 6 months of reading, I just ended up skipping a lot of it. Even if there were good threads where I wanted to get into many of them would have been weeks or months old.

    E-mail was the real killer. I had thousands of e-mails, not all from Mystic people of course but thye were mixed in with a bunch of spam or Reddit notifications (I signed up for Reddit just before I took time away and it
    ended up sending me tons of notifications).

    Yeah, sometimes it's not relevant anymore anyway. You get an occasional
    message where having read to whole thread would have been beneficial but it takes way too much time.

    I have a crapload of filters and regex to filter out my mail and get to the important stuff quickly. Without it, I'd be completely overloaded, with the important stuff buried in other stuff.

    This is getting harder and harder to stay on top of all the comms platforms. Reddit, Discord, Slack, Echomail, Netmail, Email, Faceb**k, and the list goes on...

    Cheers!

    There's a reason I lurk on fewer channels these days than a few years ago,
    and this is very much at the heart of it. :)

    I agree mostly. However, you have to go where the people is and as long as people level of awareness in privacy stays low, they will still use these platforms.

    Since the goal of such a platform is to communicate with people, you have to
    go where the people you want to communicate with are.

    The thing I dislike the most however, is having to reach out to a fellow
    sysop on Facebook since he's quicker to respond there vs a netmail.

    Cheers!

    Yes, this is kinda sad when you look at it. I still try to discipline myself and check on them at fixed intervals. The worst in todays society are
    people scotched to their phone all the time, loosing consciousness of the
    world around them. The only one have have more issues is echomail and netmail where I tend to pay closer attention :)
