• Connection Issue

From metalhead@21:1/157 to All on Mon Feb 17 13:04:47 2020
I had Mystic running smoothly for a while, but it seems like I did something
    to mess it up.

When I try to connect with Netrunner, MIS is saying "1 Connection Blocked."

I tried to get around this by changing the port# in mystic and Netrunner, but it still does the same thing.

    Where did I go wrong?

Check your blacklist.txt in the data directory. If your IP is in there
remove it. If that is the problem you can also add your IP in
whitelist.txt also in the data directory.

This occurs because you are trying to login too many times without authenticating properly and you're IP is not in the whitelist.txt. If you're connecting locally, within your lan, you should add something like:
    192.168.1.*
to the whitelist after removing the IP from the blocklist/blacklist (i forget what the filename is).

That's assuming you lan is setup this way. Change accordingly.

If you're logging in remotely, say from work, your business probably has some static IP block you can add to the whitelist also.

    Cheers,

You've blacklisted yourself probably connecting too many times quickly. Check your \data\blacklist.txt for your IP address and take that out.

The short answer: Load up mystic -cfg, go to Servers > Edit IP Blacklist and remove your IP address.

The longer answer is that each server can be configured to automatically ban people based on number of connection attempts in a certain time window, or
    from their geographic location, etc.

This sounds like your source IP ended up in the IP Blocklist probably due to the twit settings for the number of connections. You can whitelist your IP
so it never goes into the blocklist or adjust the twit settings to allow for more liberal reconnections.

    Embalmed, Al, Captain Obvious, g00r00,

    Thanks for your help.

A while back, g00r0 said to use port 2323, and I listened, but then I thought port 3000 would be more beautiful than 2323, so I switched it to that port,
and I guess that was the cause of this. So, I reverted back to 2323 and all
    is good now.

Thanks again. I'm having a blast with this! (I should get out more maybe?)

Thank you...thank you! Just put in the main PC's IP address into the whitelist.txt & am getting a larger screen with MagiTerm I can read without hurting my eyes from the smaller text. This means I don't need to wear
glasses just to read with the larger text without wearing me out.

Thank you for putting this here. I can read better in MagiTerm with double-sized. Even the colors don't bleed into the background like they do on the netbook through the VGA connector on the monitor.

You have made my life easier & more enjoyable because of this.

I am not sure which Windows you are using but you can increase the screen/font size to ease the strain on the eyes! :)

You can also use full screen in the various terminals if you are "calling"
into a BBS and NetRunner does upscaling which gives a less pixelated view.

I get eye strain too so I feel your pain but there are solutions that can
make the window fill your entire screen if you want to!

Am going to look into it...especially now that it seems like much of the
grunt work on the BBS is done. The bad issue with mine is it runs slowly...no matter what the screen is set at. My main system...can run it much better.

I see the issue now I think. You're not connected to a monitor and your netbook has a tiny screen? If you can't run the BBS on your main system then a BBS terminal is the way to go for sure (like you're already doing).

I am working on some eyestrain related stuff for NetRunner and I'm obviously biased but I think it already produces visual results signficantly better than anything else at the moment (despite some other drawbacks).

Not sure if I will ever finish anything but I do have an "easy-eye" mode that I've been considering that will have some color palletes and font manipulations that are not quite DOS-accurate but should be scientificlly easier on the eyes.

My brain tends to come up with ideas much faster than I can actually realize them, but its in the pipeline and it'd be nice to have some addtional feedback from others who feel like their eyes hurt from this stuff!

Actually I do...but the netbook output looks worse than just telnetting into
it with Netrunner. My main system I'm writing this on looks bright & crisp.
The netbook is about 12 years old.

Those like me would be fantastic for those of us with weaker eyes. For instance...on the netbook...can't read the quoted text...but here on my main screen...looks great. That's why I changed all the menus to use bright colors because the 10" screen I was using before getting the USB switchbox made the standard colors hard to read.

Saw that last night. Either program allows me to feel better working with the board now that I can see it clearly.

In the past...never had this issue...but the last 15 years has changed that.
