Has anyone generated a 40 column theme for Mystic they are willing to share?

I never saw someone do it but I was working on one at one point, only to decide to stop until after the new theme system. Currently in the new theme system I turned off the "40 Column" option in theme settings but I can try to get that reenabled for you if its something you want to work on.

If not maybe I will try to find an old Apple ][ BBS or something to model the theme after.

I second that. I also have a C64 bbs and use a real C64 to call other bbses from time to time. Having a 40 col option for these users would be great.

The reader is a template so you can make it whatever size you want.

The editor can run in 40 column mode when the theme is set to a 40 column theme. I removed that with the new theme system though because I was going
to redo that stuff and I had never seen anyone ever use it.

Figures its been there for years unused and like two weeks after its removed someone wants it! ;)

I have a sort of 40 column theme, it is a Image BBS theme the menus are
pseudo 40 column in other words if you are calling in at 40 columns the 80 column screens will print in 40 columns by use of the cursor control codes, I print 1-whatever up to column 39 then with the control code restart at column 41 which lines everything up for 40 column users yet still looks like 80 columns for 80 column users. This theme though is as close to an Image BBS as it comes, I just haven't finished the Message base menus and screens, I will try to finish it up this weekend and send it off to Avon to hatch out if
people want it, if you want to see it in action before it is finished log on
to my board and check it out, it is not CG it is at the moment ANSI only.. wn2.duckdns.org port 23..

Unable to look at your theme with the terminal emulator I have that runs in
40 columns. The keyboard has no way to press the <ESC> key. The computer I
am using is a TI-99/4A.

You have to create 40 column templates for them. Everything Mystic displays is configurable and has to be redone for 40 columns. The only thing I can think of that requires Mystic to do something on its own is when posting messages, which is exactly what the old theme system's "40 column" setting did.

I'll try to get that added back.

Its also possible to simply not use things like those ANSI readers within a
40 column theme as they tend to not work as well in the limited space. If I were to do a 40 column theme it'd probably be loosely based on a popular C64
or Apple ][ BBS system or something.

I thought that might be an issue, it is setup as ANSI and the escape sequence is because I am running on port 23 and the bots kill me.. Send me an email
and I will send you the theme so you can look at what is done on your side...

Yup using the I call them MCI commands I push the cursor over to column 41 so it gives a pseudo 40 column feel but when calling in at 80 columns it prints
in 80.. Definitely a lot of customization to it, probably has my BBS name all over it too..

The Telnet client I am using for the 40 column testing has options for 40,
64, or 80 columns depending upon the user's choice and hardware. It has ANSI support, however, there could be the possibility the developer of that
software defaulted to 80 columns. I'm not sure if ANSI has some kind of interrogation for column width, or if it just assumes that if it answered
when inquiring about ANSI capability, it is 80 columns.

It doesn't directly support a column width report but there are some tricks that can be used to detect a relatively accurate screen size with ANSI-BBS detection.

I requested this back a few years ago and it was added in limited capacity.
I do have 40 column themes running on my BBS, but it does need some tweaking and you are correct the message editor does not run in 40, or I should say it does not display a 40 column mode, just continues. it's still workable.

My 40 column is text only.
