I was curious about everyone adds taglines to their messages? I seem to recall them back in the 90's when I was here before but havent see any option for them. care to shed some light on how to do that?

I checked with g00r00 as I could not remember it all (and plan to add this to the Mystic Wiki)

You create a data file like taglines.txt in your DATA directory.

Each line in the txt file has a tagline phrase on it.

e.g.

A billion dollars isn't what it used to be. - Nelson Bunker Hunt
A bird in the hand is safer than one overhead..
A bird in the hand is the best way to eat chicken.

Then in your Mystic message base you replace the text in your Origin field
with @RANDOM=taglines.txt

You can also include a path name there too but if not it defaults to the DATA directory.

This will cause Mystic to choose a random entry from the taglines.txt file
and add it to your outgoing echomail posts for that message base.

As you can see in my replies the Origin line is set to the contents of the textfile I am pointing Mystic to in the DATA directory and because I have the command noted above it's replacing any default Origin line.

I wonder... if the feature that I am testing should be added as a final line *before* the tearline so as to keep the Tagline and the Origin separate?

I can see how it would be nice to show some random taglines but also want to keep the Origin line showing the BBS info etc.

I don't have a system in place to add taglines to an actual message outside
of the auto signature. So you can't do a random one from within Mystic
without a mod or something

I agree with Avon on this. Would be nice to keep my origin lines intact.

What about being able to pull up the taglines file with ctrl-something like
we can do with the spell checking, and then let the message author pick their tagline? IDK, just throwing it out there as a request/suggestion for later.

The messages earlier were random origin lines. I do not have tag lines in Mystic's editor but it is something I can add relatively easily.

I would vote for that, some text file you can configure Mystic look at, and some setting you can enable/disable that would either prompt you to choose
from that list upon trying to save the echomail or just choose a random one from the list and include it at the bottom of the post prior to the tearline.

I see this feature as a 'nice to have'

I like the idea of a tagline file too, although I haven'y used one lately.

MBSE does this very well. There is a global tagline file that users on the BBS can view and add to if they want.

When saving a message the user gets choices to randomly select a tagline, page through the taglines or save the message without a tagline.

Perhaps you could make it just read from a text file, then if someone
chose to make a rumor mod or something, they could use the same text
file.

So, taglines could be rumors, or just defined by the sysop, depending
on what the sysop wanted.

I agree, some may not want the feature. In my golded editor it's off by default
but easy to add the three needed keywords to enable it.

Although it makes more work for someone (you, in this case) adding the ability to use taglines, it's best left off unless a user enables it either from the user settings menu or perhaps settings available in the editor.
