• Number of messages?

From Don Rolo@21:1/101 to All on Fri Mar 13 03:30:33 2020
Hi people! a question for those with more experience:
How many messages do you keep in the different areas?

For example, I have set 5000 messages for the General Chat area,
and I delete those with more than 365 days old...
For the rest I keep 500 messages and, again, delete those that
    exceed 365 days...

What "numbers" do you use? I saw several BBS's with more than 10.000
    messages per area.

    Thank you!

I just mass set everything at 5000 messages and 365 days.

I don't expect anyone will actually read 5000 messages in any base or
anything, but 5000 seems like a manageable number that I can still search against.

Personally for areas with a lot traffic, that are "important", i use 10000 and 365 days. In areas like FSX_BOT or FSX_DAT i use 500 and 100 days, cause they are being updated daily.

    Hello Don,

For example, I have set 5000 messages for the General Chat area,
and I delete those with more than 365 days old...
For the rest I keep 500 messages and, again, delete those that
    exceed 365 days...

You can set those to meet your needs. I set a max of 5000 msgs and a max age of
    0 days.

    Ttyl :-),
    Al

With HDD storage being so good now I leave most fsxNet bases as 0 and 0 for number of messages and days. In other words I keep them all.

The exception to this are bases like FSX_DAT and FSX_BOT where I limit the numbers down by days, where days = 90 or similar... and leave number of messages to 0 ..

Thanks Al for sharing your setup! 0 days means you never delete the msgs. right? BUT I guess that when you get the msg. #5001 the #1 gets erased, right?

Since my systems are running on VMs, I keep all my message bases at no more than 500 messages.
