• Python Install

From The Godfather@21:4/156 to All on Fri Apr 17 14:01:50 2020
I'm working on getting my BBS online and am currently to the point of Modding the BBS. A lot of mods/scripts for the the latest version of Mystic support Windows (I have Windows 10) but are using python scipts. I'm running the latest 32 bit version of Mystic so doors will be supported. However,
obviously my Windows is 64 bit, assuming downward compatibility.

    Two questions:
    1. Which version of Python should I download and install. I know it needs
to be around version 2.7, but 32bit or 64 bit?
    2. Where an I find a simple installation guide for Mystic that will allow Python to exist, recognize scripts, and run them? The documentation I find tends to spend more time discussing how to create scripts for Mystic then to simply use python as a tool to load and run scripts.

    Any assistance would be appreciated.

64 is fine, it shouldn't matter too much since you're running a 64bit system.

Menu command GY will run a script. If the script is in the /scripts directory, you can just put the filename to run it. If it's not in
the /scripts directory, a full path and filename will be required.

If you meant how to install Python for use with Mystic, check here:

Quick flag here - the bitrate of the operating system will determine door compatibility, not the BBS.

Only 32 bit doors. DOS doors won't run in a 64 bit environment, at least not without a LOT of fooling around.

That reminds me for some reason, I owe you an apology. I called you an
elitist at one point because I disagreed on how you were designing synchronet to handle message linewrapping/truncation/etc., and not only were you
correct, I was being an unconscionable jackass.

Just a point of clarification, and I know he said he was using 64
bit Windows... but DOS (16-bit) doors run just fine on 64-bit
    Linux (using DOSemu). ;-)

I see, I had read somewhere that the big difference between Mystic 32bit
versus 64bit was the compatibility with older doors? Feel kinda stupid downgrading now. Maybe thats why python quit working? I hate to re-upgrade and re-install all of my mods.

I can't say why python may have stopped working, but to run DOS doors you'll definitely need a 32 bit version of windows. It's a pain in the butt, for
    sure.
