• Mystic animated pause prompt

From maskreet@21:1/114 to All on Fri Apr 24 16:53:01 2020
So, yeah, I made one. It's got two examples in the zip file, and the speed is configurable.

Uses Mystic Python, and all standard Python libraries, so nothing else to install, just pop it into a subdirectory, config the speed, and it works out of the box.

Will let you create an infinite number of pause files and will display a random one each time.

It's on my website at throwbackbbs.com on the right-hand side.

    Enjoy!

Will take a look. Thanks. Used to use animated prompts when I was running Proboard.

Which one did you use in Proboard? I used to use Enterz by Branislav
Slantchev. I was actually a beta tester for his PEX products.

Same here. Had a much too high phone bill from dialing in to his board (think it was in Texas) as well as Joseph Masters (was testing Lordnet at about the same time)

    You should add this:
    and not shutdown()
in the while loop at line 21, cause if the carrier drops ;) it will stuck and create a ghost user.

Gah, is that what that function is for? Added, and thank you. I try and
figure out a lot of Mystic Python stuff from context, but I miss a lot
because a lot of it isn't documented. Thanks!

Yes, i found this also the hard way, in many occasions of MPY :)

I also saw in your script, that you loop through the file, that contains the animated info, while it is open. I am not sure what will happen if the connection drops while the file is open, but to avoid that, read the whole
file in memory once, with a list or dictionary, close the file and loop through the list. ;)

Sorry it took me a few days to circle back to the BBS and do this but it's
out the door now. Thanks for uploading it.
