Ok, just based on this message, I can tell you have a lot of learning to do. Let me point you to the wiki:

There are files in a folder "mystic/themes/default/text" that are all the
ANSI file for the entire BBS. Each file is linked to a series of menus and login sequences.

Additionally, there are prompts you can edit in the prompt editor to change
the style and feel of Mystic.

Get digging into it and you'll be overwhelmed in a good way with the complete customizability of Mystic.

Analog's answer was probably better and good enough, but in the themes/default/text directory, you're looking to edit the prelogin.ans file.

...but you can change prompts and whatnot elsewhere so that it doesn't
actually point there. But changing that ANSI is the quickest route.

Thanks, I was able to find it. Its a new BBS, and there was some incoming traffic showing on the server. The default, I believe might have left people wondering what it was. It must have been someone elses domain before me.
Anyway I was able to personalize it enough for people to know whaat it was. I appreciate your help!

FYI, if you watch the MIS connection screen too long you'll get excited that you have a ton of users. In reality, port 23 is port scanned all day long everyday by bots. Some good some bad. There are bots that check known vulnerabilities on the net and report them, not usually to you, but for
INFOSEC purposes. Others are there to see what computers have crap open for
the taking.

My point is that Mystic has an IP banning system that will eventually start blacklisting the IP addresses of bots connecting and disallow them from being able to connect to you anymore. These connection settings can be adjusted.
Just hit us up when you have learned enough to be concerned with these things.

Oh, there are a _ton_ of port scanners looking for compromisable servers, and places that have telnet open are evidently more likely to be something to try to hack into.

But there are port scanners for other reasons, and when my board went back
up, the Telnet BBS Guide managed to pick it up before I had mentioned the
board being up anywhere. Evidently said guide checks on one of those port scanner reports and adds BBSs that pop up.

Regardless, good that you've changed that, as, indeed, that seems like a
pretty important screen to change.

A ton is an understatement .. going with a non standard port other then
23 is the best approach imho. My system was getting bogged down with a crapload of scanners. My blacklist was a very long list of IP's.
Since switching, all is quiet and peaceful :)

I hope this hasn't already been mentioned, however, once a port changes
from a non standard 23, it's best to go to the Telnet BBS Guide,
claiming ownership of your BBS listing, and in some cases requesting
being white listed once you do. This will ensure that when they do scan,
your port is included, and your BBS remains listed. In addition, I do
get quite a bit of "nostalgia visitors" that find my BBS from that site,
whom would otherwise have not been able to connect to me. because I use
such a high port number, I had about a 3 day waiting period, to get white listed prior to others being able to connect to my BBS from that site;
but it was worth the effort.

But it's telnet, and I'm not aware of any dealbreakers (security or functionality) on using it. I do welcome a correction on that.

Interesting. I assume it's something I could change (Asking for ownership of your page is generally pretty easy, and I have done so -- and have mildly edited the entry).

It does seem like the go-to place for finding BBSs, especially when randomly looking on the internet.

Evidently the site owner also keeps track of new FSXnet entries, too.

Oh, along those lines, fTelnet makes things pretty nice. I introduced someone to my BBS, and while she knew nothing of what was going on, had never called
a BBS before, etc., I said, "go to bbs.stormbbs.com", and she had no problem with the "call the BBS" phase.

"What do I do now?" is a bit of a trickier one, though. I've tried to reduce the amount of menu options I have to help with that, but there's only so much I'm willing to get rid of. (Or hiding, technically. E.g., I'm pretty sure QWK would work on my BBS, but I don't show any of the commands.)

Definitely not me. Not sure if that's the owner of the site or some douche burger that tried to take ownership of it. Hope the former...

The site seems to be down at the moment ("There has been a critical error on your website."), but from what I remember, "sysop" is the site owner, so you should be able to claim your BBS without a problem.

If you weren't the "pretty weird looking dude" lol, I'd suggest trying
to take ownership. If it says it's already owned, I believe it has a
dispute option. Once you have a login for your BBS on there, you can
edit the text and add images, etc. I have to edit mine now that I'm "officially" open. But found the entire process to be painless. And
some guy will reply within a day with what he can edit, or will forward
your message to the site owner, which then can take a few days to get
the change over. But it has helped with traffic some. Maybe 10 of my
uers have come from that site in the past couple months. I'd love for
some of my old buddies in Colorado to discover that site, then my BBS,
and call. But we'll see.. it's a pretty good marketing tool though.
