• Web Interface

    From Lupine Furmen@21:4/102 to All on Sat Sep 18 13:58:31 2021
    Has anyone made a web interface for mystic yet? Something along the lines of what is available with SBBS or VA? Would love to be able to allow my users to use the BBS via HTML for those that can't do telnet connections (Like I am unable to do from work). I can use my SBBS board via web, but I hate the Message base interface.

    Want to consolidate my boards into a single instance, and would rather use Mystic than SBBS, but the web interface issue is the only thing holding up
    this project.

    It has been made long ago and is used by many via 'proxy-us-nj.ftelnet.ca'.
    An example is the one I use for my AlphaTest BBS (port 2323):
    <HTML>
    <title>AlphaTest BBS from Web</title>
    <div id="fTelnetContainer"></div>
    <!-- Looks weird, but this ensures your users always get the latest version of fTelnet and not an old version from their cache -->
    <script>document.write('<script src="//embed.ftelnet.ca/js/ftelnet-loader.js?v=' + (new Date()).getTime() + '"><\/script>');</script>
    <script>
    fTelnet.Hostname = "bcw142.zapto.org";
    fTelnet.Port = 2323;
    fTelnet.ProxyHostname = "proxy-us-nj.ftelnet.ca";
    fTelnet.ProxyPort = 80;
    fTelnet.ProxyPortSecure = 443;
    fTelnet.ConnectionType = "telnet";
    fTelnet.Emulation = "ansi-bbs";
    fTelnet.Init();
    fTelnet.Connect();
    </script>
    <A HREF=http://bcw142.zapto.org:2380/>Back to BBS's Web page</A>
    </HTML>

    In the calling HTML I use:
    <A HREF=bbs.html>Telnet to AlphaTest BBS</A> |

    So as you see the HTML bbs.html is called by the index.html run on Mystic.

    My employer blocks telnet but I can still connect using fTelnet web page as well as my web page that has fTelnet embedded.

    Normally you don't expect to be able to run a BBS people can access from outside at a place of employment! That's why I called the one I have here
    (where I work) Workpoint you can't get here
    I as the name says is a point off the main bbs, not something made to be totally stand alone. You need a VPN setup and then you might as well run it
    on a machine on the other end. As a point system that isn't needed as there
    is an out going connection to talk to the main bbs through.

    ... We all live in a yellow subroutine...

    Is there any work being done on providing a web interface where users can log in via the
    web to read and write messages or upload and download messages?

    Currently, users can log into my site via: http://mystic-hobbies.us/ but only via telnet.

    It would be nice to be able to use the web have full access to the system.

    Not currently as far as I know.

    Mystic will serve html files if setup to do so but there is no access to the bbs in any way. Not yet anyway.

    It would be nice to be able to use the web have full access to the system.

    It would but either g00r00 would have to implement that or perhaps it can be done by users of Mystic. I see a road to travel there but I'm not sure how to implement that.

    The normal setup is Ftelnet, using html:
    <HTML>
    <title>Web to Telnet</title>
    <div id="fTelnetContainer"></div>
    <!-- Looks weird, but this ensures your users always get the latest version of fTelnet and not an old version from their cache -->
    <script>document.write('<script src="//embed.ftelnet.ca/js/ftelnet-loader.js?v=' + (new Date()).getTime() + '"><\/script>');</script>
    <script>
    fTelnet.Hostname = "bcw142.zapto.org";
    fTelnet.Port = 23;
    fTelnet.ProxyHostname = "proxy-us-nj.ftelnet.ca";
    fTelnet.ProxyPort = 80;
    fTelnet.ProxyPortSecure = 443;
    fTelnet.ConnectionType = "telnet";
    fTelnet.Emulation = "ansi-bbs";
    fTelnet.Init();
    fTelnet.Connect();
    </script>
    <A HREF=http://bcw142.zapto.org:80/>Back to BBS's Web page</A>
    </HTML>

    So it's html that works via telnet from the web. You can try it to my BBS
    and see it's working. So far that is what severs to get from web to the BBS.

    I am currently doing this on mine: http://mystic-hobbies.us and it works well. I would
    like to be able to copy-and-paste some things into a message, and a web interface
    would make it easier to accomplish this instead of having to use a telnet connection.

    I DO use a web interface on my main site at http://hobbylinebbs.com a Wildcat system.

    There, I am able to log in via a web interface to read and write messages and to upload
    or download files, The only thing I can't do is play Door Games. There was talk about
    creating a new wcNavigator program that would allow a quick telnet connection from the
    web to be able to play games, but I don't see that ever happening. The developer
    hasn't even given it much thought lately.
