Would anyone be interested in an iceEdit MPL/MPY/Python mod for Mystic? I freaking miss iceEdit and it looks so iconic... I've been thinking about bringing her back...
OR, has any Mystic sysop actually used iceEdit on their board successfully???

Maybe I should know what this one is... :>

Oops - I thought I posted this on my bbSes local bases. At any rate, iceEdit is a full-screen editor that lots of people used when full-screen editors weren't included in BBS softwares... it was blue and has a unique look and feel to it... /s.

Mystic's editor looks somewhat like IceEdit already in the editing
window.
But you are right it is not the same.
Nightfox has written SlyEdit for synchronet. It can look like IceEdit or DCTEdit pretty much through and through. I like it! :)
I looked at, and thought about, a couple different ways of doing
something - one could just make a 'theme' with ANSi headers and footers that would do 80% of the things...
And using MPL might have some issues with being a FULL replacement - but
I think it could get 90% of the way there.
I wonder if I could literally just RUN iceEdit, or SlyEdit even, but
dunno if they would easily talk to the Mystic msging side....

If I remember right, IceEdit was just ran kind of like a door game. What part of the instructions are stopping you from setting it up and running it?
Forewarning, since it's emulated it will probably be slow (as in it won't display what you type as fast as you type it).

It just edits MSGTMP (or is it MSGTEMP?) in the current directory, then it's up to the BBS to handle what it outputs.

Not sure what you mean or where you were going with this. But yes, it edits and saves (or aborts, etc) MSGTMP. Using the editor (IceEdit) itself is what can be slow if you have to use an emulator to run it. As for it being up to the BBS to handle what it outputs? The BBS outputs whatever you write and save to MSGTMP with the editor (in this case, IceEdit), plus any control lines the BBS may add itself..?

Why do I remember IceEdit like I may had used it with an old WWIV BBS
I ran .. if I recall, it was really nice. I'd love to see something
like that .. doesn't Synchronet have the ability to choose multiple editors? That would be a really nice feature on Mystic, to have a
couple of retro options.
You prolly do remember it on WWiV - Virtual, vbbs and many other
'legacy' BBS softwares used it often. It was blue and basic-ish and just brings back the memories for me. :P
Then Obv/2, and other, softwarez started having 'cooler' editors but
I'll never forget using Ice.
Do you (or anyone else) know of any good message editor/writers that
have an available source? I'd love to rewrite the one for Daydream (or write a custom mod one and leave the stock one alone). Some of the logic regarding linewrapping, quoting, etc., is actually pretty complex, and I would rather not have to figure it all out from scratch :P
So I'm kinda talking out of my arse and hope someone else will reply with GOOD info, but I think IceEdit was re-written... but I can't recall the name of the project; can't recall if its source was released with it, but it was almost an exact copy - was it for Synchronet bbses??? Hmmmm.

Yes. SlyEdit was created for Synchronet BBSs and clones both IceEdit and DCTEdit - with a choice of which one you want to use, and the author (Nightfox) is here on FSX already. ;)
Right - thats what I was thinking of... usually Nightfox releases open .js mods; I'm gonna p0ke around some of the Mystic code writers and see if we can pass messages (and quotes) to Mystic from .mpl/.mpy...
Just a quick google search shows that there are javascript to python translators out there. As a non-programmer I can't tell you if they're just blowing smoke or not, or if it's way more work than they make it
seem ("as easy as a click of a button"). lol
