    Commentary:

    VA7RBP

    1) Another good week. Weather was not too warm and not too wet.
Spent a lot of time playing with JT-8 and JS-8.

Played around with direwolf on a spare pi, just to get the
feel of it, still need some familiarization before loading it
    on the node pi though.

Yesterday, I went on a geology field trip with the rock club,
picked up some nice samples of Aquamarine (Beryl), got some
sunburn, got lots of mosquito bites, but had a good time.

    2) Thanks Bob for the config tip, I got that one covered,
but going to have to take the node down to do the direwolf
    install and autostart setup.

I want to make sure I have everything right beforehand.

Bob (TVG) Someone actually use that leverites line just
before we hit the road for home...HIHI

Jim, there should be quite a few VHF links available in
the Vancouver area ie, VE7ASS, VE7MOV, and of course
    TPARC (you mentioned).

    KF5TVG

    1) Rick, my son and my brother in law are geologists, and they always ask
if you found any leverites... as in leave 'er right there.

Had a good weekend on FT8. Got my 50th state (SD) for WAS digital
on 20 m on Saturday and my 50th state (RI) for 40 m on Sunday.
I've been at 49 states on both bands for a couple of months, so
it was great to wrap both up.

Several of us have been partiipating in SSTV over VHF here in
NE Oklahoma on Monday and Thursday nights. It is fun for me, since
I wasn't a Ham back in the day before the internet, and it is
a little like a throwback tech...especially since the software
was last updated in 2001. MMSSTV is the same.

    2) Leverites: It's the one joke all geologists know (or remember)!
I've enjoyed the Apollo 11 coverage this week. (Sent some picsabout
    it on SSTV last week!)

I was 18 the Summer of '69, so I remember watching and being glued
to the TV. Can't believe its been 50 years with little exploration
(well, manned exploration) to show for it.

    KC5RBH

Hello everyone! I've been quite well! It sure was a nice break
to have one day that's not 100 degrees. I know be are just
beginning with those, but it was 85 today, after 1.25" of rain
    very early this morning.

As far as the repeater amp donation drive is going, it's up to
    $520 and I'm surprised how far it's come in. I wouldn't have
the 145.430 repeater in Sapulpa, Oklahoma if it were not for a
    lot of people.

lso, trying to move a lot of data away from Google, Facebook,
and Twitter and get it over to cloud storage. Google is just
more trouble than the services they provide for the problems
with selling user data and such. I'm just done with the
    "big data" sites altogether.

I also sometimes get in on the SSTV and also locally with Bob.
It's still certainly very fun for me. I just wish that our
mostly very old now software could be rewritten and brought
into the modern age. I'm not a programmer. Hopefully some
people will come along and get a start on it. The old stuff
still works fine, in most cases, but It's a shame to see
anything just forgot about for the most part.

    WX4QZ

    1) Facebook request for checkin from KF5JRV, Scott. He noted
"small emergency has come up", so neither he nor Jackie
    will be here.

Figured how to copy and paste from iptelnet to and from
Windows Notepad -- makes it a lot easier in scribing the
    log.

Stressful few days. Got Windows 10 Pro installed on the
desktop, but not on the laptop, or what was my Mom's
computer. Had bought a Verizon Mi-Fi for the laptop,
but may need help getting it formatted and set for
Windows 10 Pro 32-bit. Wanted to take it portable on
vacation, but the train trip is out of the question now.

Didn't feel like doing much today. Watched for storms
with a cold front, but we lucked out. Supposed to be
only in the mid 80's here tomorrow and Wednesday. Had
the computer down for storm potential, so I did a lot of
    napping...but it isn't for beauty's sake...I gave that
    up long ago (hi hi).

Had to put my 92 year old Mom into hospice last week.
They give her maybe 3 to 4 weeks. Then, I have bladder
stone removal surgery August 12. Hope I can last until
then. My brother is taking my Mom's imminent death
    pretty hard.

Finally got the new General Class exam books printed.
Got to take a bunch of stuff to the shredder in town.

On the mosquitoes, it's the female mosquitoes that come
after us, as there's something in our blood they need
for their eggs to hatch. The male mosquitoes drink
fruit juice. So, I guess that have to get stone drunk
before they find a woman to make love to (hi hi).

Having to update websites, etc., so I'm working off
the BBS computer and the laptop right now. I thought
multi-tasking was just "reading in the bathroom"
    (hi hi).

    2) Not much else. Will send the scribe shortly.

If it's the thought that counts, my place should
be immaculately clean...but a cluttered shack is
a sign of genius (hi hi).

On the moon landing, a couple of elderly men were
on the front porch in a town, and one looked up
and growled "They aren't doing anything up there,
as I can't see a thing being done" (hi hi).

    VE7TCP

    1) Not too bad this afternoon, it was warm here
(relatively speaking). 76F right now, but it felt
warmer in the mid-afternoon when I was outside. It's
all a matter of what you're used to (hi hi) (also I'm
a bit warm blooded, so I really dislike any amount of
    heat).

I missed about five minutes when I got disconnected earlier,
it seems like the node I'm connecting through might have an
idle timer because I seem to get dropped about 15 minutes
after I connect here each time.

I remember Rick saying something about using Dire Wolf for
HF packet last time I was here, and I tried it out on this
end but didn't have any success because I couldn't find any
strong packet signals that it could decode. I know it's
working properly for CHF 1200-baud packet, because that's
what I used before I got a real TNC here.

(I can find packet traffic on SDRs online, but I can't hear
it from here. Need to get my antenna higher!)

Thinking about seeing things left to deteriorate (re: MMSSTV
being 18 years old), I was just exploring 2m locally last
week while I was on holiday break from work, looking for
other packet stations. Found a ROSE network that has nine
nodes and is supposed to be maintained by one of the local
emergency communication organizations, but one of the links
between the nodes is down, and another node which is
apparently supposed to be connected to the most active packet
repeater in my area doesn't seem to be connected anymore.
Something's broken, and it makes me wonder...

    2) Just to comment to Rick that I know the nodes you're
referring to (I'm connected through VE7MOV-7 right now) but
I guess I always hope for a bit more. There's quite a few
stations on the same repeater as those two nodes although I
guess it's nothing compared to packet's heyday. Oh well.
Re: fake moon landing, I'm still in awe that there are
people who actually believe it was faked. I dunno.
