    EUCW Bulletin No 2019/6

    =====================================================================

    Snakes & Ladders
    ----------------

The first semester of 2019 S&L ended. Our friend G4LHI Peter had
the first place with 3019 point., Eddi DJ6UX was second one with 2281
points, third was our webmaster Martin IK2RMZ with 1368, and Fanis
SV2BBK was fourth with 1221 points: four persons had more than
    1000 points.

It means that despite the summer condx during sunspot minimum we can
do a good CW activity, not just 599 es 73 but real rag chewing. This
is CW at its best. Please join us in S&L.

This can lead all of us to increase CW use and help the newcomers
to understand the use of the CW. Understand the contrast between
conversational CW QSO and the popular low signal modes which do
not permit much of a conversation.

Please remember that it is not the speed that counts (though we do
have QRQ champions among us) Slow CW (QRS) contacts are useful in
order to encourage newbies. QRS fun is not restricted to our annual
QRS week. I know well how "normal" it is to use our keys to go at
"normal" speed, but sometimes please try to slow it and give someone
else possibility to make a simple and "normal QRS", it is our goal to
encourage and help those who are no experts yet. This is Ham Spirit,
too. Moreover, QRP requires slow speeds, especially when operating
low powers precision transcends speed. QRP and the art of making QRP
devices are very noble arts indeed, please do not load the effort on
the back of the majority of barefoot 100W operators. After all it is
their effort to copy weak signals.

QRPers have the duty to use precise CW at moderate speeds. QRP Ops
should expose the best CW fist possible, and they should be the
    best listeners.

    Summer 2019
    -----------

    Dear ECM and friends,
this newsletter is my last one before the change in EuCW chairmanship.
This is a very warm summer as we say every year, but let me suggest
one simple idea that my successor Mike IZ2FME had and put on paper:
He wrote an article about EUCW in the Italian ham magazine RR.
(monthly publication of the Italian ham association ARI).

Please follow his example and present EUCW to your national ham radio association.

    That's all for now.

I wish you all a very fine summer, enjoy the warm temperatures we
    have in our continent.

    73 de
    Alex I5SKK
