Although you can legally turn down having a smart meter, a "no" answer does not seem to get logged, as they have targets to reach in fitting them.

However I seemed to be sucessfull in turning down the umteenth request for one to be installed. I said "This is an RF quiet radio Ham location & no electronics are permitted on site, that I can't switch off". This was duely logged by the electric Co.

Only time well tell if this actually works.

Smart meters have a SM wall wart PSU that can cause QRM, & any CPU electronics connected to mains may get some RF into your shack or nearby aerials! It is the "No choice" once fitted, that might be difficult to live with.

Hello John. Again, Osvaldo LW1DSE from Barrio Garay, Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Here those kind of digital wattmeters aren't too common actually.

But what is a true and serious problem are street LED lightning. As the authorities has replaced almost all mercury and sodium vapour lamps by the
new and "economy and energy saver" LED ligths, in fact they are a serious problem. Former has lots of harmonics, but the ballast and the phase compensation caps generally attenuate them severely, so only small amounts
of 50 Hz harmonics and in some cases acoustical hum from the magnetic core

not tightinely made as they must. Latter, are causing problems in all HF bands and including the 2mts packet and fone (Phone) networks. They are clearly worsen than the former.

Obviusly they are the result of our corrupted politic class, these leds are
not wellcame. They flicker a lot between, say, 1/100 and 1/2 Hz, other
had dimmed to, say, 1/100 or 1/10 of the normal light flux and other simply stopped completelly to work, because of a faulty SMPS design, and no line filtering at all, generating lots of electrical noise and sprayed by the wiring itself. Also, they incadillate severely our eyes when accidentally seen directly, or reflected by, for example, by the inclinated glasses of a car. Also, marginally, surely one of those politics made a gross business ($$$) saling the copper in the older electromagnetic lamp ballasts. Those dicharge lamps had used a glass with a kind of lens that became the light disperse and preventing incandillation. LED has direct radiation in a narrow angle then, large amounts of light flux in small solid angle can be
a potential source of temporary blindness.

Those also, how you said above, can't be turned off unfortunatelly.

    Cordially, Osvaldo.
