i'm someone who is still stubbornly using CRTs for my retro consoles and computers such as the amiga i'm currently typing this from

i have a PVM-14L2 that is in pristine condition but sadly following a move across the atlantic i'm going to have to let go of it. on the other side now
i have a Philips CM8833-II which is more than nice enough for the amiga, HOWEVER...

after a few weeks now using it, i'm noticing the convergence being ever so slightly off, causing the corners to be just blurry enough that it becomes
a nuisance to my hyperattention to detail... :)

what would you do in this situation? would you open it up and play with the convergence rings? i've worked inside CRTs before, but not while they're
    on like this... scary!

If its been moved and bounced, first stop would be a degauss..pull the
electron guns back into alignment... whole thing should look sharper, and you don't have to open it up, just find someone with a degaussing wand, in a
pinch you can use a magnet but need to be super careful, you could make it worse.

the CM8833-II has its own degaussing coil which is triggered at power on,
this is definitely a convergence ring misalignment :)

It's still going bong on power on?

to me it sounds like it, though you don't really see the effect since it
takes a while to come up...

in any event i honestly don't think it's in dire need of degauss, that
kind of distortion is usually much less linear than the misaligned red...

i'm probably going to end up doing nothing about it :P it's minor enough
that if i don't look at the pixels too close it won't bother me... and
if i can avoid the risk of making it worse, all the better :D

if this was just an extra CRT i could practice on, maybe

In my experience if you wait long enough then your eyesight will just degrade to the point where you can't even tell :)
