This past Thursday, The Orville season 3 episode 4 ("Gently Falling Rain") was released. The episode was about a secret child of Captain Mercer (of the Orville) and Teleya (a Krill). The episode included a scene on the Krill (alien species) home world having to do with their law against abortion. The strange thing is, this episode was released just the day before the US Supreme Court (on Friday, yesterday) overturned Roe v. Wade, the decision that protected a woman's liberty to have an abortion.

I'm wondering if this was just a coincidence? It seems really odd that the episode was aired just the day before the US Supreme Court decision was made.

Im sure it was coincidence. That episode was filmed way before even the "leak" happened.

Abortion is a hot topic in the US, so the Orville (like Original Trek and Strange New Worlds) will often explore social issues.

Although, in the Orville episode, their society didn't prohibit abortion, they just shamed you horribly if you did it.
