• Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster

    Greetings,

Pretty sure this is the correct echo for this topic...

I just got my hands on the FF (I-VI) Pixel Remaster collection. Just based on
a few minutes in FF1, I feel like it was worth it, if only for the soundtrack alone! \(^_^)/

The music of Final Fantasy (and Legend of Zelda), NES and SNES, are indelibly imprinted in my mind. This is even better! Not to mention the improved graphics, and translation...

    Thoughts and opinions?

It was definitely worth it. Just started up FF4, heard the remixed Red Wings theme, closed my eyes, and just...loved it...

    So good!

I finished FFI and am going through the others. Great to finally have FFII, III and V all translated on console in NA too. The new font is pretty awful but the classic isn't too bad. I'm a huge fan and was lucky enough to get a PS4 collector's edition.

Anyone else playing through these? What do you think? Are you using the new music or sticking with the original?

I bought FFIV on the Nintendo Switch and am playing through that right now.

I really liked FFII on the SNES back in the day, so bought the pixel remaster of FFII only to discover that wasn't the same. I might go back and give that a try once I'm done IV.

I really like the updated animations for the magic spells and a few other areas. I'm using the modernized font & arrangement for the music and quite like both, it's updated & modern while still true enough to the original.

They're on my 'buy when they go on-sale' list. I probably buy one or two new games at 'release price' per year. I just finished the main story on the new Star Wars game and need to finish up the remastered Metroid Prime release.
Then I told myself I can't buy the new Zelda game until I finish up Breath of the Wild... So many games, so little time.

I played the originals but I have not bothered with the remakes.

There are hacky ROMS for FF1 that fix most of the bugs. I mention for no particular reason. I think it can be interesting since FF1 was so broken.

I didn't like FF2 that much. The advancement system was quite meh (and also broken).

FF3 was nice. I liked the music and the class system was interesting. So many classes were traps or were useful only in certain moments of the game. Also, the last dungeon was looooong. Playing without savestates back in the day was for the hardcorest of the hardcorest.

All in all, good fun :-)

I got stuck at that one cave in FFI (you probably know the one), but I loved FFII as a kid.
The skill-by-skill leveling system was pretty nifty, and the story felt different than the
    rest of I-V

Ah yeah, don't make that mistake. On SNES II in NA = IV in JP, and III in NA = VI in JP. We did not get all of the entries in the series outside of Japan, and they renumbered them here. They corrected that mistake later on and no longer use the SNES numbering.

    Glad you're enjoying it!

I buy lots of games and have a not so small collection. The backlog is real. I don't ever expect I will completely catch up with it in my lifetime.

I beat Breath of the Wild when it was new (on Wii U even). I may pass on Tears of the Kingdom for a while.. this year is a very good year for games.

Yeah, that's part of the reason why I restrict myself when it comes to buying $70usd games. I have *far* too many that I still need to play to justify
buying new ones. I only picked up Jedi Survivor because I knew I'd actually play through it and finish it.
