• A500 Mini & Series S

From ACMEBBS@21:4/10 to All on Wed May 4 00:09:00 2022
Anyone gotten either one of these yet? Got my Series S about three weeks ago, with
getting my A500 after eight months of waiting a couple of weeks ago. Haven't hooked up the A500 yet, but have the S hooked up to my monitor through an adapter
through the VGA adapter with a set of cans plugged into the controller.

Love my Series S & have gotten much of my 360/One S software loaded onto the console. Has meant keeping an eye on specials of the digital editions of my physical software. Even some of the 360 titles have been free.

would like to here what you think of it. I have actual Amiga's that I keep packed up right now while my kids are young. Do not want accidents. So wouldn't mind something replace able.

I have the A500 Mini, ordered from the UK for shipment to the US. I just haven't had time to play with it at all. Sort of like the C64 and VIC20 Maxi.
I do have a Series X and love it. Been playing Dying Light 2 on it most recently. I am starting to get tired of the games that can take hours upon hours to complete and you need to complete most of the side missions to gain enough experience to level up to compete against the bosses. But I take it a bit at a time though. I also have the PS5 but I don't like the controllers as much as the Xbox line.

It's a quarter of the size of an actual 500. Does weigh pretty decently, especially since they put weights into the case.

Only bad thing is that they have set it up (without hacking it) to be a game box
with an ARM processor running Amiberry. On the other hand, there are a lot of hacks
where they have put WB on it and allowed you to run ADF files.

Had an actual 500 when they were being sold retail. Ex-wife hated it, so I got rid of it. If the prices would've been decent...would've bought the real thing. Since getting this for the nostalgia factor...was the lowest cost option available.

Did the same thing from probably the same retailer you did. Put in my pre-order in mid-August & waited all that time. Was WELL worth it!

    Same thing here.

Same here...but with Arkham Asylum. Been finding specials available of older titles...so been getting those put on the S. One of my favorites has been <cough, cough> Bejeweled 2 for the 360. While being stuck fighting Bain on Asylum...Bejeweled allows me to spend a few minutes with the S.

Another one I just found cheap is Red Dead Redemption for the 360...along with the zombie pack.

    I also have the PS5
but I don't like the controllers as much as the Xbox line.

Know the feeling...especially using the stick which came with the C64.

Best low cost option I have seen is the Pi 400 with Pimiga

This guy is simply awesome here is the blog for the ongoing project. https://cubiclenate.com/pimiga/

Got one of these...with the software. Agree with you 1000%...but still wanted
    o
    get one of the mini's.

Something I ran across a while ago was a new 3D printed case for the 400 with the
use of a mechnical keyboard. It's over on Thingiverse.

Love this software! Been using it for the past several versions.

Thanks for the link. Will be looking at it.

On the other hand...if you haven't looked at the Apollo distro for the Vampire.

Almost got the Vampire...but went with the MiSTer instead. In case you're wondering...got mine quite a while ago before the cost went crazy.

I have looked in the the Vampire, haven't heard of the MiSTer or the Apollo Distro. Will have to check them out. I actually took apart the PiMiga project and put it back to together inside my Retro Pie project to get have it a menu item within my build. Next time I remake it I will be updating to the new 2.0 version.

Some day when I'm Happy enough with the BBS to let it ride a bit I will get the retro itch again :D

Here's the link to look at it: http://www.apollo-computer.com/apolloos.php . Haven't found the newest version of the OS available for downloading yet...but you should be able to find/download the v.58 of it. There's videos available on You Tube to find out how to get it running with WinUAE & such.

Did the same thing with the 1.5 version. Was a dream. Will have to find the
    ime
to do the same with 2.0.
