• Do you know Jamendo?

I was just wondering wether you people have heard of a website called "Jamendo"? It's kind of a mixture between Facebook and iTunes Music Store but with the idea of offering free downloadable music to its visitors. In 99% of the cases, that means music released under the creative commons license and just like open source software is often able to compete with commercial products, so does creative commons licensed music.

At first, I found it difficult to find my way through an archive of 10.000+ songs, espcially when you don't know any of the bands listed. But after a short time, I got quite familiar with the way "Jamendo" works. Of course, if you are a Metallica fan, then you will not find any songs from that band there, but you will probably stumble cross a lot of other, well talented and great new bands who might just be as interesting as Metallica.

Me, I do like Ska, Oi!, Punkrock and Reggae, and those styles are well covered There are bands from all over the world who put their songs onto the Jamendo website and from there are able to reach thousands of (new) fans.

If you are a musician and are looking for ways to make your music known to the public, this portal might just be what you've been looking for.
